Good afternoon all. I picked up a 2024 leftover FLHTK March 14th. Started with 12 mi and now has 450 mi.
Yesterday I washed the bike for my first time. Nothing different than the 100x I washed my previous 2011 FLHTC. After the wash I started it and rode around the block no issues.
This morning when I tried to start it up it was nothing. No turnover whatever. Radio and lights all worked. Tried the manual code in case the security didnt shut off and it worked. When I turned it off the flasher stayed on.
I took the battery for a load test and they came back with it was good but only 6% charged. Placed the battery on a charger when I got home for 1.5 hours, reinstalled the battery and it started no hesitation.
I have not used the battery tender on it since I brought it home. It sat from Friday until last night and then last night until this morning.
Any thoughts or insight on the issue. By the end of the month Im going to have HD do the initial 1000 mi service.
Thank you for the quick response. I was kind of thinking that in the back of mind. What do you do if you take the bike on a road trip with a stop on the end?
Couple possible issues, hopefully easily remedied:
a) bat not maintained by dealer while sitting since 2024. Not fully charged when you picked it up
b) you did not ride enough to fully charge it up
c) parasitic drain between rides (that should be fixed with software 5057D update)
d) your son took it for a ride and blasted the stereo while you slept
The new ones draw a lot less then older ones. Put a good maintenance charge on it. Drawing it that low probably did some damage and it probably has gotten low before.
I would have the CCA checked on it after a good charge. I am a firm believer in always having it out of the bike to do that load check.
At 6% charge, it was below 12 volts. At 12.8 is 100%.
At 11.8, it's at 0% charged.
A pretty reliable check is with your volt meter on the maintenance line, with a fully charged battery, it should not drop below. 9.6 volts cold start cranking. If it does, you need to get a new battery under warranty.

Taxgod4U will that software update work for my twin cooled with the “legacy” infotainment center? I ride every day but it’s only about 13 mi to work.
Thanks to all the other responses. I did have the battery out of the bike when I took it for load testing. Idling it is putting out 14.12 volts and 2000 rpm’s is 14.19 volts measured with a good multimeter.
I bought a leftover 2024 last Spring and the battery was dead when I went to pick it up. So they put in a new one. I don’t think these do well sitting for a year or more unless the dealer puts them on a tender which not all do.
