I"ve been thinking about putting some new wheels on my '08 SG. How much "riding performance" and safety is compromised by going with 18' and 21" wheels? I'm under the assumption that the more rubber touching the road, there better.I'm thinking about going with 18's on the front and back.
Here's my experience with this. I had 18's on both ends on my RKC, and I have 21/18 on my RG
18/18 - A slightly stiffer ride than 16/16, far better handling
21/18 - Slightly stiffer ride than 18/18, slightly less handling than 16/16
Personally I love the looks of the 21/18 and for the type of riding I do they are perfect. I don't charge into corners and try to keep up with the sport bikes. I am willing to live with a stiff ride.

Im thinking 18's would handle better. Ive had a 19 on the front n 16 on the back on my street bob then went with a 21f 18 rear......the front was a big difference, but I got used to it. Then I sold her and bought me my streetglide. right out the bat, i got me a 21f, 18r. Havent regretted it since. Looks killer too.
alot of people go with 18"s for the comfort...you can defenitly feel a difference with 21" but I think the great looks outweighs the slightly difference in comfort and handling...i run a 21/16 myself
you bike is sick --- one of my riding buddies has the same set up only on a white RKC --- I love the look
