Can any one tell me if theriding around Calgary/Banff is good the first two weeks in October? I am taking off for 2 weeks and thought about riding up there.

Thanks,

It's a crap shoot at best. It might be nice with daytime highs in the 50's, or hovering at or below freezing. I'll be getting back from a trip to Gatlinburg on the 30th of September. I'm hoping for the upper 50's myself.

I'll suggest that's too late to be safe. It'll be a crapshoot.
The Banff area can get inclement weather just about any time from Sept. through June.
My sister has lived in Calgary for 35+ years. She's seen blizzards in every single month of the year. Of course that's not every year! We're going out to ride Montana, BC & Alberta next July just becauseJune, July & August are the best bets. Everything else is a gamble. I use to always go in the winter for the skiing, but went one year for the Stampede in July. The temps drop fast when the sun goes down even then. If I were you and you don't have thousands of miles to travel and spending a small bloody fortune like we'll have to, I'd take the risk. That's some really gorgeous country!
Oops. I see you're thinking Smokies. Where the heII are you? LOL You're talking a 3000 mile range! We're going that way in October. Two years ago, we went down the same week and had gorgeous weather, but the ride back to Virginia was cold rain the whole way. Oh well. . .just another adventure!
You would be better off to come here during Jun, Jul or August. Already getting frost at night and it's only a matter of time before we get our 1st snow. People are right it's a complete crap shoot here for weather. Was riding on boxing day here in a
t-shirt about 5 years ago or so. Let me know when you do decide to come and we can get in a couple of rides if you like.
