Why is it that BMW Police Motorcycles are still the only M/C that have this technology
I cannot image the lives that would be saved from Run Flat Tires....
We all should make our voices heard and send all tire manufacturers a note of disappointment that they can these tires on Corvettes , BMW 4 wheeled cars, but on a 2 wheel vehicle where 1 tire goes down , a life can be lost in a single second.....
I believe the HD police bikes have run-flat tires too. I do know they (HD police) are not rated for two up riding.
There may be reasons worth finding out.
Police Specials were also equipped with tires designed to stay on the rim in case of deflation. These "run-flat" tires, supplied by Dunlop, were able to increase safety significantly by enabling the rider to safely slow to a stop if the tires are damaged in a high-speed pursuit. However, the very thick sidewalls on run-flat tires transmit a much greater level of road shock to the handlebars, increasing rider fatigue, prompting operating agencies to migrate to standard high-performance tires. As a result, Dunlop discontinued production of the run-flats. The most popular replacement tires are provided by Metzeler now.
I don't think you can find these any more at dunlop, but I did see a set on ebay for pretty cheap. Hope this helps
