want my bike to run as good as it can-hear all the praise so ive got the IDS on order. but it came to me today: isnt this like taking a pill to kill the pain?instead of finding the cure for the pain? i mean are we treating the symtoms without curing the cause? if we're hiding a problem what are the long term issues? are we damaging anything?? just curious.

Unfortunately only time will tell. The 07's have only been on the road for a year and the IDS out for a few months. Gonna be a while before we see what the possible long-term affects are. And what problems arise with the 07's after some long miles are logged and a few years go by.
I'll just add that IDS systems have been used on metric bikes for decades. There is a reason for it, to cushion the tremendous shock the chain gives the rear wheel on very high horsepower bikes. While it does add another maintenance issue, rubber inserts will need to be looked at from time to time. The good out weighs the bad in my opinion.
I agree with you. It seems like it's masking the problem. But I've been saying all along I really didn't think this was just a transmission issue. I really thinks it's a combination of harmonics that just don't get along. The IDS is the mediator. With the IDS they all love each other. Just wait'll you ride it...I still can't believe those little rubber bushings can make such a difference!
