Auto Theft
Yup. Seen in up here on a couple of occassions. Work in the automotive industry, and it's just another way for the thieves to berak into cars that they want to steal. Easier to get at the lock mechanism.
I guess it's better than breaking a window.

Window breaking makes to much noise... Where the lock punch is becoming more and more the way to break in.... Seen it 100's of times (Simi retired Indep. Insurance Field Adjuster)
Most trucks have plastic door handles, Cars too... pop the plastic tang and out comes the handle...
If you have a really loud stereo, put a recording of a BIG MEAN A$$ ANGRY DOG in it a turn the volume up, set the alarm to turn the radio on when it sesnse a12 volt drain, most of the time you'll see a poop trail from you ride...

Someone tried to steal my pickup at Myrtle Beach in May. Damage around drivers door handle. Must have been scared away. I still have my truck. They stole another truck in the same parking area. Found truck a few days later in North Carolina torched.
I have seen thiefs steal the lock cylinder, go to a locksmith and make a key that fits the cylinder and then use the same key to start and steal the car.

Yup,
That's how they stole my pickup, along with my trailer and our bikes when we were moving from NC to CA.
BTW, if driving across I-40, don't spend the night along I-40 in OKC. JMO.
