Sure glad my 04 EG (that is now a RG) can not read - It has been a great bike - I have also done 4 HOG Fly & Rides going back to 03 - each time it was either a EG or RG and NEVERa problem... two in AZ one in Boston to Nova Scotia and again this last July up in Alaska for a week.... Great bikes...
I've read some of the posts regarding the 07/08 touring bikes. I have an 07 Ultra and I love it. This is my 3rd Harley. I've had the EVO, the Twin 88, and now the 96. The reality is that H-D are air cooled big twin engines. By there nature they are going to run hot!. Either understand this and accept it or don't buy one. The EVO (Road King) ran hot. My 02 Ultra (twin cam 88) ran a little hotter. My 07 Ultra runs a little hotter then all of them but not by a huge amount. When I'm rolling it feels fine. When I'm stuck in traffic it's hot, but any bike feels hot in traffic.
Others also complain about havng to shift more often because of the 6 speed. It's a 6 speed, you should shift more.
I don't know about the whinning isse, my runs quiet.
Bottom line - almost all vehicles (cars, boats, motorcycles) could be better. Seems like there is always something that needs to be changed to make it perfect. Again accept it or buy something else.
I read a review on their new touring bike and it was an excellent review all the way around. Sounds like one hell of a great bike. Guess they will take a lot of sales from BMW and Honda...
Doubt many HD riders would convert to that bike from a bagger. I sure wouldn't...
Just bought 08 Ultra and i love it. Seems to me most people expect Honda qualitys in the Ultra. They are getting close like the cadillac smooth ride it has but it keeps all the qualitys Harley in known for. Its hot as hell in traffic and i love it. As far as noise i found it too quiet so i changed mufflers to Rush for some O.G. sound. Being around Harleys all my life it was a life long dream to own one and after years of thinking of what model,I settled on the Ultra for its creature comforts for me and the wife. So far so good. We both love it and wife loves the new sound. You will hear no complaints from me. I know Harley makes changes slowly but you have a good product why make massive changes to it. If you are looking for a Honda but want a Harley you should buy a Honda.
Looked at a Vic once a few years ago when they first came out - seemed to have been designed by a cartoonist and machined with a chisel - didn't work for me.
BTW - '07 RK,not one single complaint, and been riding scoots since 1969.
When I see a Victory, well let's just say I don't look at it the same as a Harley. Every Harley(because of owner customization) is different. Victorys look like cookie cutters and the touring one looks like, well sh*t !!
I just came off a Victory a few months back and bought my Ultra. Not because it was a bad bike(it had problems like everyone else) but lack of dealers and knowlegeable wrenches. It ran like a scalded dog. It was amusing to take a stock 92 cubic inch motor with just a Stage 1 setup(pipes, air cleaner and remap) and dust off a SE110 or S&S124 and watch them scratch thier head. But that was all it had going for it. I am much happier now and if it is speed i want in the future I'll just buy a second bike. As for the Vision, it is ugly as hell. if they sell at all i believe it will be more of a "Look at me,I'm diffrent" purchase than really liking it. just my .02.
