Tmax wrap up
Seems like I recall..... someone suggesting that the IAC might be at fault.
I have one recommendation for ya, based on what I have seen on IAC adjustment. Once the throttle stop screw is moved from the factory setting, it is prone to moving on it's own. I highly suggest "locking" that screw in place.
You have a couple options:
1) find a thinnut that you can placeon the back side of the TB as a jam-nut
2) add a 2nd setscrew on top of the existing one and jam it that way
3) RED loctite - the caveat tothat is that you'll have to take itout to get the loctite on the threads & then reset it
4) Spikecame up with a solution I used once when mine moved on a ride several hundred miles from home. After resetting it, we used ladies nail polish & hardener to "glue" that sucker in place.
Just food for thought.....
Ahh, found this.....
290 Threadlocker Wicking Grade
A medium strength threadlocker for pre-assembled bolts up to 1/2" (12 mm). Penetrates threads by capillary action. Secures set screws and other assemblies after settings are completed. Seals welds and porous metal parts. Protects threads from rust and corrosion. Localized heating and hand tools are needed for disassembly.

You should not need to touch any screws, here's a qoute from the manual.
Next, initialize the new ThunderMax ECM. Initializing establishes âhomeâ positions for the TPS and IAC. With the handlebar switch in the âONâ position, cycle the key switch on and off 3 times, leaving the ignition on and off for 30 seconds each cycle. DO NOT start the engine or move the throttle during this process. After 3 on/off cycles, start the bike 2 times, letting it settle at idle for 10 seconds; the idle should be smooth and steady. Some engines may require several on/off engine starts to initialize properly. After initialization, shut off the engine (cycle handlebar switch), but stay linked for step 8.
I had to take a quick look in the manual cause I could not remember setting anything.

Ouch! Glad mine is running great just like it is.

That's all well & good, Scott. ***BUT****, all that procedure does is electronically"train" the TMax to the current "mechanical" adjustment of the two (TPS/IAC). What about the x% of units that are at, or just beyond (+/-) the outer limits spec ~ on the "mechanical" setting?

ok- last time i posted i was goin through a nightmare with my tmax. It was shop installed and was on round 3 of tuning. Just got it back and I was told the IAC was not set correctly. Everything seems to be fine at this point. Runin real good now. Keepin my fingers crossed !! Glad i held out, Everyone locally was tellin me to dump that " pos " (tmax) but you guys on here talked sense into me and I figured give the shop one more chance at tuning, then I was gonna take matters into my own hands and get a laptop and tune myself with your guys help or randy from zippers. Once again thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice !!
The T-Max comes with all the software and instructions. You need to learn how it works and do it yourself. JMO
Whoever set this up should have spotted the IAC issue before the bike ever left. It`s not rocket science. It`s easy. You just need to look at everything and verify whats called out. Then you`ll know if the T-Max or the bike is at fault. Or maybe operator ERROR =YOU....

I`m glad they found it and the bike runs OK now. Now get in there and learn.[8D]
