I rode several BMWs with ABS for many years. If I had a choice, I would not buy another bike without it. It saved my "bacon" more than once...and the peace of mind you get when riding in the wet is more than worth the price.
Provided the option was available on a model I've wanted to buy, yes I took it! In the past, if a particular model didn't have the option it didn't stop me from buying it. I've owned Beemers and Honda's with abs. I like it. That said, it tends to lead to overconfidence/inattentiveness - which can bite your ***. I found that out a few years ago. ABS is not a cure all!
If you really want good information on abs, ask the Goldwingers. It's been around for about 10 years now.
The biggest thing that would make we want to move to an '08 is the ABS. Once I found out that the ABS is being delayed till the end of the year, I felt better that I don't have to think about it till next year.
This is the exact reason I'm looking at ABS. My single biggest fear riding is locking the rear wheel in a high speed quick stop and either going down or high siding. Even if I never used it, it would be a HUGE peace of mind knowing it's there.

I recently went to a National level MotorCops competition and talked with one of the guys thay had ABS. He told me he could be on the highway,@ 70+ MPHand give the bike 100% brake and it would stop quick, strait, & smooth. I also watched the competition and you could see clear as day that the bike w/ABS could stop much better & quicker at the end of their timed runs (as they blasted past the finish line).
Thanks again for all the different views I think at this point I will order the Ultra with ABS and do the waiting game!!! Have the old Honda
to ride till then anyways and it's getting into the rainy season now!
