Default Need some Input

Hey you motor heads.....my bike is puffing a lil gray looking smoke from the left pipe, (rear cylinder) while at a idle when it's at operating temps. Moving down the road, there is no evidence of any smoke, I have my buddies look closely.....then when I have to stop for whatever reason, as soon as she comes to an idle, it will puff-puff. Just as quick as it comes, it will go away when I hit the throttle.

Happened last night w/the wife on the back, she said she smelled gas.....going back to my buddies shop to have it looked at, just wanted to see what you fellas come up with. Anyone else ever have this problem....???

2007 SG, 103 stroker motor with Rinehart true duels.

Thanks.

Could be valve seals.

Did anyone consider valve seals?

What does the inside of the pipe look like?

If ya pull the rear pipe and look closely in the exhaust port, you can usually see sign of oil seepage into the port. Same is true on the intake, but ya gotta pull the TB off to see it. It could come from either one.

Did anyone work on the heads when ya did the 103 kit?

Gas smoke is black or white or in between, oil smoke has a blue tint to it. Could just be to much fuel being dumped in rear cyl. when you drop it to 0% throttle position.Run the bike like you do and at the point when it starts the smoking, kill the motor and check your rear plug ,if its oil from a seal, then it should be oily. If its fuel it will be wet with gas or just black and sooty.

Thanks.....

Hi Phil.......the heads were done w/the kit, they were decked & machined, Skip's did the work & they are called "Silver Bullet" heads, a in-house thing he does. The guys @ Skip's read the forum often, just wanted some ideas for them to go on....thanks again & I will keep ya posted.

oil smoke has a blue tint to it
Buring oil also has a very distinct odor, as does excessive fuel burn..... THat's another quick & dirty investigative step. If you can trigger the smoke, you should be able to tell if it's oil or fuel by smell....
