Default Sooooo damn confused

I spoke with Doug from HQ a few weeks ago. Got everything laid outfor my build this winter. I was looking at a 98" with heads, gear drive cams, revolution cylindersetc etc. Doug stated with my pipe, I could easily see 110-115 for HP and Torque.

Today, I'm at a good friends indy shop. We start talking about HeadQuarters pertaining to numbers, HP, Torque and......ultimately money.

He tells me he will do a 95" HD big bore, Screamin Eagle Heads, S&S or Woods cam (gear driven), gaskets etc etc for about $120 less than HALF of what HQ's quote was. His pice includes labor. He told me we would easily see 100/100. Is this possible?

I've seen what this guy has built. Today he was in the middle ofassembling a243 rwhp dragbike for the big races in Kentucky next weekend. (HP is on paper) He knows his stuff though. I'm all about making sure I don't "cheap" my bike out of what she wants. But, I want to make sure the partsI do put on her compliment one another. (PhilM)

Can anyone chime in with their experience.....please.I want to make some good ponies, but if I can save over half of the money hellI would be a fool to spend that for 10-15 hp/tq.

2006 Street Glide
Ness Big Sucker
Thundermax Auto Tune
D&D FatCat

So far......

Thanks for your input.

That is a BIG difference.... but to be fair, you need to compare a HQ 95" to this 95". The 98" jugs & pistons alone are a grand!

I bet if you make a "like comparison", you'll find there's not much difference.

THe biggest difference would be the results...You're gonna give up about 5ea HP & ft/lbs from 98 to 95 & that's still much better than what you'll get w/the S/E heads.

Just a thought...

Bottom line though.... ya gotta do what's right for "YOU"..

Ask Spike how his 95 runs.... He did mention one problem with it though. He said it doesn't turn worth a ****, cause the front wheel is frequently off the ground!

Did anyone tell ya lately.... That bike looks freak'n great!

lol, isnt that the truth..... I have not dynoed yet but damn that front end hates staying down... Like Phil says it comes down to you.. I do not regret one penny I spent on this build and if you go with SE im sure you wont either..... The porting and cylinder work is really sweet to look at from HQ.....
The two things I have been trying to do with this build is keep the front end down (not much luck there) and be real easy on wet rodes.... Ok so it kicks out every now and then... But it is one fun bike to ride now.

One other thought.... did the quote have "core" fee's in it? If so, that's a big chunk of $$$ that comes back when you ship your heads back.

Yet another thought ~ there is a difference ($300 vs 100) in forged vs. cast pistons.

Ya know, the more I think about this.... the more I agree w/the thread title. [&:]

or you can buy a set of heads from ebay or me and cylinders from phil to send in so you can still ride while the work is being done...

On top of all that, I talked to Mike Roland at Kury....you know the famous motor builder/drag guy, I have never ever heard anything bad about HQ, but Mike says he is getting some unbelivable results from the Kury Wild things package

I gotta tell you Kern, I stay confused to....thinking about buying a 124" S&S and just selling my damn motor.

Yes, that is the core deducted.

See, I dont know what to do. I have the coin for the HQ build, but the right side of my brain is saying to do the indy build and have enough left over for the tour pack and road sofafor the wife.

Tell me this, would one build do better than the other with the Thundermax? (does it matter?)

Thundermax or DTT will tune the build, but you have responses from at least three of us that are running the DTT.

I can't stand the long winters here and am seriously considering going to 107" or bigger. I have to have something to do and something to look forward to in the spring.

I have considered calling Mike Roland asI am one not to go down a path well traveled (HQ) even if the results are proven. (hell, my build is a mishmash and does just fine, but I did a lot of research).

Bart, let me know what your thoughts are? Anyone else have any thoughts on the Kury builds?

I am certain that the TMax will tune either one in just fine.

Again... if 95" is the way go,that's probably between 500& $600 less, but I can tell ya that Doug will not spec one of his motors w/cast pistons.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, just be sure your comparing "like builds".
