IdS question
I am asking before I jump into the fire.. Does the inserts around the Sproket have to be replaced?? and what are they made of??
Just asking , have install guide but need to make sure

Here you go Bushy. You shouldn't need to replace the rubber pieces for a while



The stock pulley looks wider in this picture but it is the same width as the IDS pulley



Note the spacer installed in the center. It just drops into place

The bearing in the center of the pulley is the one that needs to be pressed in.

H-D suggests you should check the condition of the rubber inserts when you have your back tire changed. I've been involved with this technology supplying the rubber inserts to a coupling manufacturer for several years. The major factor affectingthe insert life is the amount of heat created by the compression and relaxation of the inserts when you accelerate/brake. How you ride will affect the life of the inserts.
On the industrial side these inserts can last for years. The answer is yes they will have to be replaced.
When? I'm guessing it could be years.
Anyone with another brand motorcycle containing this technology have any experience they can share???

edit: the reference to chain lube is obviously meant for the Ninja. that's one of the maintenance things i like about the HD's no freakin' lube!
