Thinking of switching to a DTT this winter. I know since the SERT marries itself to the ECM it can't be used in another bike. My thought was what if I sold my ECM and SERT as a pair. An 06 SG ECM should be the same for all touring bikes from 01-06 correct?
Thinking maybe sell the ecm and sert for like 200 bucks if the buyer can send me back their ecm to keep as a spare. What do you think, would that work?
As far as i can remeber it will not work. some how the ecm is married to your frame as well, the ecm has the vin number of the bike in it, and when you put a different one in it will not start. it would need to be re flashed to the bike and then you would lose the sert. But i could be wrong on that i would check with your local dealer and see what they say for sure.
with the hand held tuners for cars, you just reload the stock tune and thenyou can use it else where. not that familiar with the sert, but it's worth a shot
[I believe] some how the ecm is married to your frame as well, the ecm has the vin number of the bike in it, and when you put a different one in it will not start.
I'm not disputing that outright because I don't know. But I don't know how the ECM would be able to query the frame, engine, or anything else about what their numbers are. Whatever it is would have to be "chipped" and have a communication channel to the ECM. I'm thinking you could swap ECMs between two comparable bikes and everything would work okay, VINs flashed into them or not.
While I think your plan will work, I think the issue is that the ECM has your VIN# on it which means that if you have a problem and take the bike to the dealer for service you'll probably have issues with the MoCO.
I was having this same idea since there aren't any other options except a SERT for the 08 RG. I was hoping to ditch the pair when DTT came out, but after talking to Alan @ DTT yesterday, I'm not holding my breath. He told me that HD went out of their way to add a proprietary connector that is causing them fits and he didn't have a guess when they'll figure it out. Guess I'll buy the SERT and the sell the pair later if I can? It still seems better than running a stock bike!
I thought buying an O8 would be leading edge...not bleeding edge![sm=feedback.gif]
