RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
I like the TBW but i think the best one is the one that works. Do people actually care about what percentage the throttle plate opens at certain moon phases when the planets like up with x-p?
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
Which is better? I guess I'm getting old, no I AM getting old. I've always been of the opinion if it ain't broke don't fix it. I've never broken a throttle cable, used to ride when it was a stiff one piece, wire cable, no spring, you cranked it on, you cranked it off. All Harleys were like that till 1973! Never broke one of those either. A servo motor can and will eventially fail. I don't need no stinkin' motor on my throttle, I ain't a limp wristed fairy. I can twist it. We have too much unnecessary crap on these bikes now. They need to concentrate on what's on the end of that wire. The fuel injection is a MAJOR PITA. How many fuel management posts do we see here? Give me a carb on the end of a cable and I won't have as much trouble as a "wire on a throttle body. Less trouble equals more fun. When Harley first came out with electronic ignition it was so bad everybody converted their new Shovels to points. The carbed bikes with electronic ignition are bulletproof now, but it took a while for Harley to get it right. Maybe the wire is o.k. but a cable wont leave you stranded, just use the return one for the pull if it breaks, mine never have.

What he said. My general rule of thumb with mechanical things is...if it's been successfully produced and used for 5+ years, it's worth my looking at it. Otherwise I'll let someone else be the guinea pig.
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
I actually have an 08, and I been riding for quite a number of years now.I would'nt base any bike choice on FBW, it works fine, only thing I notice is it seems smoother with no delay I can detect. I have done a burn out with no problem so I do'nt really buy into the butterfly not opening enough (Fact B) in fact I have not found the FBW to do anything out of the ordinary. FBW seems to work like any other bike I've owned except it has no slop in the movement. I am sure someone will try and sell us an aftermarket "improved" version but I it would be unneeded.
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
I was VERY APREHENSIVE! It's ok, it's a little different but better. As someone mentioned the power seems more linear, does that make sense? It is just smoother. Now that my motor is built, I must admit that I never notice it at all....
Never noticing it should mean something.
Listen, the 21st century is coming whether we want it to or not. GET USED TO IT!!!!
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
Yeah, embrace technology, but revolt at BS when you find it.
Another fact:
HD no longer wants you modding your bike for performance, they instead want you to only buy their chrome and clothes.
In fact, they will punish you via their warranty if your bike breaks and it was modded for performance even tho the performance mod had nothing to do with the warrany claim.....We here hear about this more everyday....huh?
Is HD evil?....No...they are only tryin to survive and continue selling bikes that are more and more designed by EPA geeks who cower at the sight and sound of Harleys.
Myself, I'm proud of my huge carbon footprint.....I'll die carbon credit bankrupt and never offer the first apology that I once lived and died on this planet....I'll eat my share of the world's food, breath my share of oxygen, and chit my share of turds, and fart emmissions and noise on my bike till Iexpire.
And in that way I'll tell the world I was here and thump my chest soundly from my grave.
Like they say, "If I gotta explain, you wouldn't understand."

RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
Fuel injection scares me; fuel injection with FBW scares the crap outta me. In general, wires scare me! Holy chit, I'm livin in terror[sm=escape.gif]I've always had the philosophy that you buy a bike, then you start taking stuff off it. If it still runs, you didn't need it. Now, having said that, I've got an '08 SG that is without a doubt the smoothest most comfortable bike bike I've ever owned, but every now and then as I'm riding down the road, I catch myself thinking "Geez, I hope one of them cute little electronic doodads don't take a dump", cause I ain't got a clue[sm=WTFsgign.gif]
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
TBW is not new. Maybe new to the Cave-Man, but not new technology.
When they do away with the wire altogether then call me (some automakers are working toward that by the way).
I wish we could have had this forum and looked back at when EFI came out.
I'll bet moneythat there were people Boo-Hooing it.
One thing is for certain gentlemen.
Things will change.
Like it or not.
There are still people here pissed off that Harley went to the "new" 88 inch motor.
And Drum Brakes. What was Harley thinking? Going to Disc? Not a necessary change[:'(]
