RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
Some of you people are kinda funny. You claim you'rescared of new technology yet everyone of you uses a computer and the Internet to communicate with each other. Talk about Fly By Wire!!
I think HD went to FBW because it's easier to add cruise control to the bike with it. I don't think the EPA has anything to do with how the throttle is opened. And all bike engines that use vacuum operated carburetors won't open the throttle full at low rpms just because you demanded it. They all open only as much as the engine can handle, same is true with cars that have vacuum operated secondaries on their 4 bbl carbs. The carbs don't open full just because you "floor" it.
But you are right, if something goes wrong with your bike out on the road, looking around for pieces of metal or wires on the ground to fix it won't work anymore. But that's why you have cell phones (complete with built in cameras too). Of course, I'm still old fashoined and don't have a cell phone, so I'll be stuck out on the road, unable to fix my bike if some electronic thing breaks.
I've fixed many a car and motorcycle with pieces of junk laying on the road over the last 42 years and just like cmcsns, I can't fix my new '08 SG if some "cute little electronic doodads" break. But I wouldn't trade my bikein for anything esle to ride. It's the nicest riding bike I've ever owned in 42 years of riding all kinds of bikes.
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
TBW is not achoice for many of us. If you want the bike, you need to get the TBW. From what I understand the systems is fail safe to some extent. If the system fails, it defaults to "limp" mode allowing you continue your trip at a fixed speed. The nice thing about the TBW is the fact that you can have the electronic cruise control just like in your cage, NO laging when you go up or down the hill.
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
MY 08 SG went into FORCED IDLE MODE at 65 MPH had to cost to side of road ,rt 95 passing lane. Turned bike off, then it had throttle again. Dearler said NO CODES AND HARLEY WON'T DO ANTHING UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN!!!! Many other reports out there of t.b.w. problems. CALL HARLEY (1-414-343-4056) More SG complaints then other bikes, MORE SG'S SOLD.
RE: Wire Throttle or Cable Throttle. Which is better?
I have to wonder what complications will arrive when you put a set of high bars on a bike. How does the computer read the values and will longer wires (probably lengthened buy "whoever") change what it sees? THAT sounds like a whole nother can 'o worms than getting longer cables. Just wondering
