Default FUELPAK EFFECTS?

I was reading that putting a Fuelpak, or other management system, works good for the fast gain. The article went on to say that the aftermarket systems causes the engine to build up carbon deposits. Is this true.

It certainly could happen with mapping that's incorrect.

Did the article say it was known to happen with the Fuelpak? Isn't it a little hard to mess with those beyond what the company directs you to do? I know with the Power Commander and the DFO-type stuff the user has free reign to mess up the system.

Where was this article?

I'm running a fuel pac, I don't have a matched set of anything thats in the manual so I've selected my settings by next best guess of pipes that closely resemble mine. So far its working fine.

I do have some carbon black in the tails. I'm sure that some is in the cylinders as well, just how much is not known with out bore scoping or popping the tops. Plugs don't look bad.

Over all runs great but won't get much better then 35-36 mpg either.

Only running F/Puntil getting DTT installed along with some other mod's in the future.

At the present rate of other projects and non-projectssucking down cash, the future may not be as close as I've planned!

Your article would be interesting to read, can you post a link or the reference for the article?

I've perused that site before and a quick look-through didn't show any updates that jumped right out at me. Some of their info is dated or at least incomplete. Didn't see anything talking about EFI supplements causing carbon buildup. Maybe it was another site/article?

So do you have to dyno tune to increase the mileage?

The shop my broinlaw takes his 05 RKC to just replaced his PC3 with a Fuelpak. Before the change he was getting around the low forties and now with the fuelpak is getting somewhere near the mid/high thirties.
The funny thing is that the shop is telling him that one of the plugs is all black/crusty because the PC3 was set up to rich.I beleive the plug is oil fowled due to bad valve seals. His bike does use oil.

Wow that is some bad mileage. I get around 40-42 around town and 48-50 on the highway with my fuelpak. Better check your values. If they don't have your values call V&H. They might have some suggestions for fine tuning.

When you talk about using the Vance and hines fuel pak or the Power Commander is there enough savings to warrant staying away from the HD SERT fuel pak? I am at the place of conisdering this step. Not because I race around on my bike but because I want it to be what it can be. Is the upgraed worth the money and is there any benefit to the upgrade other than bragging rights?
