Default Advice Please?

I have had my deluxe for 6 months and have laid it down once and it has been knocked over once (today)[:@]neither being my fault.I am thinkingit is bad luck an of trading it for a street glide however I am only 5'6 and about 150 lbs. I handle the deluxe very well as I have ridden for quite some time. I am also a MSF Rider Coach so the handling of the bike would be no problem. I am a bit concerned about the weight and seat height of the bike as far as backing it out of the garage and just moving it around tight places. Thoughts and advice please????

With all due respect, go back and take your own course?

MSF teaches that there's never a reason to lay a bike down, IIRC....

Both bikes have almost identical seat height. Also, there really is no such thing as bad luck.

Bikes don't have bad luck. It's an object made of steel. If you think you bike is bad luck, you might tell youself to buy one of these little bells for good luck?

TexasRedneck,
I didnt say that I had a good reason to lay the bike down, I was pretty much forced to. What MSF teaches is that there is no such thing as laying a bike down to "avoid" a crash.

MACK,
I know but was really looking for a reason to get the street glide and talk the boss into it

Now ah'm confused....if you warn't tryin' ta "avoid" a crash, how were you "forced" to lay it down?

You're right, the bike's bad luck. You'd better sell it. Let me know how much.
By the way, the good luck bell thingy is only good if you get it from soemone else. My psychic told me that, at least I thought she did.

I was cruising down the road, the sun was pretty bright (yes I had shades on) and the jackass in front of me decided to lock up his breaks to make a left turn that he had already missed. I was not following too close I just could not see clearly due to the sun. I hit the brakes, evidently a bit much on the rear and the rear slid around to the right causing me to go down on the left. No I did not choose to lay the bike down to avoid the crash that is just the way it came out luckily this time. No doubt about it I did not avoid a crash, I crashed! Normally we teach that it is better to have a controlled stop rather than laying the bike down and skidding, however had I not laid it down then I would have slammed into the back end of the car. Luckily I only slid off into the ditch to the right side of the car.

If you want to go for it...DO IT.

I just switched my Deluxe for the SG and to be honest find the SG easier to handle and better all round.

I am slightly taller at 6'1, but have a buddy in the 5'5 range who made the same switch to an ultra a while ago...

we are both convinced that the glides are easier to handle than the deluxe even with the extra weight!

best of luck...maybe hire one before hand and check it out for yourself.

Scrappy, you and I both know that were someone to present that scenario to you, you'd eat 'em a new one. You WERE following too close for the conditions, but more importantly - ya walked away from it (an' THAT counts!)!!
