I use half helmets mostly, but occasionally a 3/4 Arai open-face. A helmet is not needed to hold in the earmold because the fit to your ear is perfect and deep. That sucker's not going anywhere. I had my audiologist make me 2 sets of earmolds. One for holding the Shures, and one solid set for use without the Shures. After he took my earmold impression, he sent it in to a lab back east somewhere along with the Shure earbuds. The lab then made the earmold to perfectly fit the Shure earbuds. It's a cool setup. By the way, I was mistaken in the model number I have. I have the Shure E2, not E3. They also make an E5. The E3 is supposed to be better than the E2, and the E5 is supposed to be the best of all. There is no E1 or E4 model. The E2's can be found for about $100, the E3's about $250 and the E5's $400 if memory serves correctly. I should point out that I'm using these on bikes that have windshields. I doubt that the audio quality would be very good if you have a full windblast in your face such as on a bike with no windshield. I could be wrong - just a guess. On the other hand, a bike with no windshield will have a clean airflow - no buffeting. Might not sound too bad after all.
