I know a lot of you have had good experience with Clearview. That's primarily why I ordered a windshield from them. I placed my order August 3rd, knowing the 7 to 8 week delay because of the "spring" rush would mean I wouldn't get a windshield till the end of September. Ok with me!
After 8 weeks with no contact from Clearview I decided to call. I'd seen reference here as to how helpful John was. John was appologetic but couldn't be speciffic about helping me out. Eventually I recieved notice that they were "trying" to ship my windshield. UPS delivered it yesterday, 91/2 weeks into the 7 to 8 week order process. It's a piece of crap!
I always fear prodding people to complete work because I think they rush to quiet the griping customer. In this case I was right, so I called back to see if we could correct the problem in a timely maner, ie: quick! John can't do a thing except have his boss call you back, so I waited for a call & explained the problem yet again to "the boss". We also discussed that I would have to wait till this morning to test ride the windshield for height, etc. With the two hour time difference, I called them back this morning by 10 am their time. Of course I had to leave a message & wait for "the boss" to call me back. We discussed the problem again, & the fact that I needed to take advantage of their size adjustment guarantee. So far it was looking good, but I have a need for the shield starting this weekend & next week. When we discussed shipping arrangements for the new shield & return of the old I found out that the new one would be shipped USPS 2-3 day delivery. When I asked why they weren't using UPS again I was told that since they were doing "anything" to correct "my" problem they weren't going to incure the extra cost.
I'm now 10 weeks into ordering a new windshield without any complaint about their pricing. My money was there whenever they wanted to charge my account, I waited their stated time without complaint, & when I did contact them I was polite in asking for an update on progress. For living up to my end of the deal I've been sent what couldn't even be called a "second" (it doesn't fit either side of the fairing) & told that correcting the problem is only worth a little effort on their part. I told "the boss" that it's his business, but that I wasn't a satisfied customer. I'll wait for the next shield to arrive, but if it's not a lot better they'll get both back. They won't however get a recommendation from me because their customer service is severly lacking.
Mine was perfect and worth the wait. Rode with my old shield until the new one came. If you are not satisfied with their product, ask for a refund and buy elsewhere. There are several shield manufactures out there.
Well they may not get your recommendation but they sure have mine. It is the best windshield I have ever had on any bike. The workmanship is outstanding and the view is supper clear. In fact I think I will log on and buy another one just a little taller. The 8" recurve works fine on my SG except in the rain, as the rain comes over the top and into my face. I don't have that problem with bugs or dirt as the recurve does it job.
What bothers me about your story is that you castigate Clearview roundly without a hint of what was wrong with the windshield to begin with. What constitutes a "piece of crap"? Yes, it takes at least two months to get a windshield from them, but you knew that--although it took a bit longer in your case. Mine was here in 26 days and in perfect shape, although it was ordered in early December, not exactly the peak riding season.
Shipping via USPS 2-3 day may be quicker than UPS ground, depending on your location. Since the delivery time was important, why didn't you just offer to pay the difference to overnight it?
maybe aint nothin wrong with it except your perception and the long wait....i love mine, hopefully you'll love yours too....so what was so wrong with it....scratched...color....broke....or did you change your mind on what you wanted once you got it
They told me 7-8 weeks when I ordered mine..got it in 5..put it on hoping for the best.I got a stock height one cause the stock shield was just about perfect height.I cant hardly tell the difference between the stock one and the clearview...same buffeting and all..good quality but no real ride change.Damn
I waited 3 1/2 MONTHS for mine. When it came it was either cut wrong or molded wrong. Sent it back and they gladly replaced it. This one has a small distortion right where the recurve starts. Couldn't tell it was there unless I peeled the protective plastic off. Once the plastic is peeled off you have to pay a restocking fee if you send it back. I'll eat it. But no more Clearview for me.
