Clearview Windshields, a different experience
What bothers me about your story is that you castigate Clearview roundly without a hint of what was wrong with the windshield to begin with. What constitutes a "piece of crap"? Yes, it takes at least two months to get a windshield from them, but you knew that--although it took a bit longer in your case. Mine was here in 26 days and in perfect shape, although it was ordered in early December, not exactly the peak riding season.
Shipping via USPS 2-3 day may be quicker than UPS ground, depending on your location. Since the delivery time was important, why didn't you just offer to pay the difference to overnight it?
The windshield I waited 9 1/2 weeks for arrived looking pretty good, till I tried to mount it to the bike. Four of the five bolts lined up with no more problem than you would expect from two pieces of plastic made by two different manufacturers. The fifth, in this case the last bolt on the riders right, was well short of lining up. Even knowing how to go about it I was only able to force it in at an angle. Enough to hold, but not correct. That can be compensated for later, but once I got it mounted the bottom of the windshield (remember the "great fit & finish, far better than Harley"?) didn't follow the line of the fairing. Whoever finished it buffed/ground off an arc along the bottom that raised the shield & trim 1/2 in. above the fairing between the last two bolts on the right side. Further inspection showed that the windshield ended in line with the fairing trim at the right side, but extended an inch behind the fairing tirm on the left. All in all, just sloppy workmanship.
As to the shipping, I might have paid for UPS overnight if there had been any customer service from the manufacturer. Both John & "the boss" kept claiming they just couldn't understand how there could be a problem, & were going out of their way to solve *my* problem. If I had just wanted to take advantage of their upgrade guarantee I would be either happy to wait, or pay for faster service. Since they couldn't meet their own scheduling & were acting as if replacing a defective product was a 'favor' I think they should at least eat the cost of keeping satisfied customers.
I'll have two houses full of bikers here for Biketoberfest next week, some of whom are interested in Clearview windshields. Since there is no hurry on Clearview's part to accomplish the exchange I'll be happy to show my friends their product. Hopefully the second windshield will be of better quality.
