Tires.....Has anyone had a problem with there rear tire needing to be replaced at 6,500 miles???? I have
an 07 U/C that needs a tire already I have taken ths bikein every 2,500 miles for service. The guy I spoke with said this was kinded normal, what the hell?????? If this is normal than I need to rethink the Harley
thing????????
Run the pressure up higher in the rear. Change to an Avon or a Metzler if that doesn't help.
Don't depend on your dealer to watch your tire pressure for you. A good mechanic that is also thorough will, BUT, that isn't something to depend upon at all. Assume that if you don't check the pressure, no one else will.
Metzler will wear sooner... Forget Metzler! Ull never get 7k on a Metzler!
Stock Dunlop ... 10k is average mileage..
Im riding ultras (5) since 1993. 10000 is the mileage on a 402 Dunlop. 15K on front.. (Normal riding style) I ride 10 to 12 k per year and I change the rear tire at 10k.
Lot of things come into play here...Are you like the rest of us and have a tendency to gouge on it on a take off now and again.. Don't keep the tire pressure up and do you ride 2 up alot more than you used to??? I have found that the tire pressure is really important I had a tire cup real bad with about 6500 miles on it and it was all due to low tire pressure....
I just put two new tires on mine at 15,000 miles. This is the second rear tire. I wear mine out with fast starts because I love the way the bike sounds. Tire pressure is important, downshifting and lettingout the clutch with each gear when stopping, fast starts, rear braking, riding a passenger all can wear a rear tire.
In my experience tire life is 5k to15k depending on how you ride.
Ihave a 2007 EGC w/ 5,300 miles and I am down to the wear bars. Have ridden it two up for 1,500 miles. I run 40 lbs in the rear. Tread has wore very even across the tire. I just thought it was soft compound?
I just replaced the stock rear Dunlop (with another) at 5000 miles on my 2007 Road King. It was down to a bit over 2/32" and wore evenly. I check tire pressure weekly and run 36 psi as I am always solo and weigh 155. 5000 miles seems about average to me based on my experience with other (BMW) motorcycles.
Some of you guys are getting better mileage out of your tires than me! I put a new metzler on mine 3weeks ago, ran over a nail and ordered a new one today. I think I got about 200 miles[:@]
