I hope toget a new 08 Ultra Classic in the nextfew weeks. I would like change the mufflers from stock toVince and Hines. If I make the change (Slip-Ons only) will Ineed to have the fuel injection re-mapped?I'm mainly interested insound over increase horsepower.

Thanks
Eddie

The real answer is Yes and No. If you stick with the screaming eagle performance series slipons for the 07-08 models, No you dont need to do anything and it will sound good. It will not be as loud as vance and hines but thats where yes you will need a remap comes in. The stock 02 sensors can not handle much of a change. The V&H flow much more and will lean out your bike more than hds se's will and this is not good. I would not run a slipon other than the SE ones with out a remap.

There are several ways to modify your existing mufflers with out spending the money on new ones if you only want a better sound. Depending on the type of baffle that is inside the stock muffler, its pretty easy tomodified your stocks. The stock baffles can be customize to increase the flow and soundby using a sharp rebar andpunching it through the end of the baffle.Another option would be to remove the baffle and cut out the part that blocks theexhaust passage. Which ever mod you do will create a differnet sound. If you do any others mods other then slip on's or punch your stocks, even as simple as adding a perforamce air filter (which will allow more air to flow though the engine) you will need to, or shouldre-map the EFI.

P.S. [sm=welcomesign.gif]to the club!!!!

Welcome....lots of great info here and has been such a help to me....Now, since we're deep into the fall riding season (cooler weather) and assuming HD's may be new for you, you will not be experiencing the extreme heat your bike will put out in hotter weather. This would be an excellent time to do the pipes/exhaust/mufflers of your choice, some kind of aftermarket air cleaner and the EFI remap all at the same time. The advantage to doing the re-map and the air cleaner is that it will allow your bike to run richer, thus cooler and will be a welcome addition come next summer. Take your time, listen to lots of bikes around your town/dealership and make informed decisions based upon your own likes or dislikes and then ask more questions! Again welcome from the good guys!
