Another new build - Going Whole Hog
A few quick questions
Phil Are you directly affiliated with HQ? The reason I ask is your reputation on this site is impeccable and would mean more than it already does if you are not part of HQ but merely an advocate.
Shooter Are you officially a dealer? If so I am considering a 103" HQ kit.
Does anyone have any advice for me on a HQ or any other kit for my 07 FLHX? I am consideringGMR, SE and others. After talking with Kevin at HQ I have to say I am impressed. I whole heartedly agree with Phil at the bottom of his sig he states always use parts that compliment each other. This is keeping me from going with SE parts as while they may be nice individual components there is no package or tried and tested package.
Lastly I have been searching on here for a dyno chart I found for a HQ 103" kit. At least I think it was on this site. If anyone knows where to direct me I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance guys.
I've yet to dig into my motor and I also respect the suggestions of the motorheads here, but see what towpro has to say about his as well.Tom, not only have i talked with Kevin, but this summer i went down to have him tune my current build... what a wealth of knowledge he is! now... how i found kevin was through conversations with Phil, who is just an advocate for HQ, and Doug from HQ... while other companys im sure produce nice builds, ive decided on the HQ 113 build for many reasons... #1 the support from HQ #2 Kevin making the maps for the sert and there new tuner (build is only as good as the tune) #3 this motor is labled the ultimate touring motor #4 it is not a radical crazy cam build, #4 it is a build with gobs of low end torque (which is where its at imho)... #5 i really trust the entire operation going on at HQ, they really have there hearts in the right place and wont sell out or stop short even after youve purchased... heck Doug spent at least an hour on the phone with me and i had not purchased anything from him at that point...Kevin... hours and hours on the phone and in person....damn good people...

I am currently running a "bastardized" 103" build. HD Heads, pistons, Woods Cam, modified TB, etc. Good torque and HP, but some issues I really dont like - the .650 lift cams are noisy, the engine is very sensitive to ambient temps, being that when I get the tuning spot on at one temp, when the outside temp goes up, I need to back off timg to prevent pinging (poor head design and flame front problem ) Went on a long trip in 100+ temps and really didnt have any problems, but backed the timing off better than 15% across the range before I leftjust in case.
I went with HQ due to Doug spending literally hours on the phone with me walking me through the options, answering questions and pointing me to another shop for the crank work, that when I called, there was another person on the phone just like Doug, willing to listen and help.
I am sure there are other builds - GMR, T-Mann, Kuryakin, and yes, even HD (expensive)that will give you good results, but I know the support I will get from Doug will be second to none.
Brian TTM runs a GMR build and swears by it as do a few others. If ya dont go with HQ, that would be my next choice at this time.

Thanks, that's quite a compliment! I appreciate it.
I am not affiliated with Head-Quaters. I am a VERY satisfied customer. I have built many motors over the years, from a number of different shops (machine shop), including HD S/E stuff. I was reasonably satisfied with things from various after market shops (with only one exception, from the shop owned by a writer from one of the common issue HD Rags).
When I built my most current engine (HQ 98"), I talked to both HQ and GMR. After a good bit of research and gut feel, I chose HQ. Like many have mentioned, doug is just a GOOD, no BS guy and I did not feel like he was trying to "sell me" anything.
I went with my hunch and could not be happier. I have since built several more HQ motors for buddies and each and every one is the same quality and produces the same results.
Perhaps it's kinda like Ford / Chevy.... Some like this & some like that. I like HQ and because they did me "right", I try to return the favor for them and the result makes others happy too.
Sorry.... I kinda got to rambling on ya.
The bottom line is the YOU are the one that needs to be happy with YOUR bike after all is said & done.
Holler if I can help with any questions...
Has anyone gone with the 10.5:1 compression ratio from HQ and regretted it? Kevin at HQ has me comfortatble with it but thought I would just ask since I have everyone's attention. Would anyone do anything different if they had to do it again?
Phil - The compliments are well deserved. We need as many people like you as we can get.
UK I took your advice and PMed Towpro. Once I hear back from him I will forward the info to you.
Thanks again everyone.
