I think 04RoadKing is right. Settling just causes regret. I will suggest you see about renting an EG Classic and ride it on short hops around town similar to your commute. I've got an 08 Ultra and before I got it I felt the same way. Of course, my commute is 27 miles each way and most of it highway, but the scooter has become my primary vehicle. Unless it's raining too hard I go everywhere on it.

I ride my Classic all the time around town. It's really not that much of a handful.

I have a 07 E Classic, looked at the SG also, but having owned several Ultras, I wanted the tourpac...
You didn't state you age and that may not be a issue, but most younger guys like the SG looks, but us old farts know how damm handy the top box can be, call it experience....as for the handling part, the EC is nothing around town ( for that matter neither is the UC), the EC handles great, easy parking and the bags and tour box is great to have. I also thought of the detachable box setup, but I don't think I would use it much, I really like having the box with me, holds all my "stuff"(half cover, helmet, gloves, etc...)
One option would be to rent a EC for the weekend and see if you and you lady like it, how much you use the tourpac, handling issue, etc....

I think you'll fine that you like having all the extra room and won't want to be without it.

As for the radio???? what's the first thing you turn on in you cage after starting it, bet it's the radio for the tunes....bike's the same, I would not be without my music....

GET THE ULTRA CLASSIC!!!!! and take off what you don't need!!! It's better to have it (Tour pack, fairings, etc), and not need it, than need and not have.

Besides all the upgrades you'll probly do, you'd have to do it on whatever bike you got....

I got a SG, and love it.....But the only reason I didnt get the UC was becaseu I hated all the colors.....

So, I have a SG....I've added lower fairing, and have a tour pack on order....sooooooo

I thought I'd want to make the tour pak detachable also, but after riding the EGC awhile,it's staying on.

What does it actually cost to make the tour pak detachable?

Go with the EG Classic and a good Detach kit, can’t go wrong. Love it.
