Get the Big Dog. There's nothing like an Ultra 2 up. About $300 detachable tourpak. The best of both worlds.

Another option is to look at a used cop glide. It's a standard with black and chrome engine.

I went through deliberations similar to yours. Long story short? I went with the EG Classic and have never looked back. Now most of my riding is two-up with my better half, but the tour pack is so handy I doubt I would ever get another bike without one. As far as riding around town, or short rides, I don't feel like I am riding an 800 pound bike. Seriously, I actually get around fine with complete confidence. The big Glide is far more nimble than most people think.

I agree I traded a RK for an Ultra and love the tour pak and radio. The only true test is to rent one for a weekend and try it. Good luck.

Forget what everyone tells you! You'll love the SG. You can dress it up or dress it down as much as you wish with ease. Besides its the coolest bagger in the line. Sounds like the geezer baggers are way too soft for your liking. Take the plunge, worth the extra dough. The SG is a youthful bagger with attitude! Make the right choice.

RKC set up for touring. Will anything ever be perfect? Most anything you buy will have infinite attach/detachable. Racks, packs you name it. I think getting something you enjoy riding matters most. If it's a real mother of a trip, mail ahead what you need or keep the creature comforts down and take only what you need.
