Default Totally comfused on exhaust options

I have a 2007 Ultra Classic. The bike is stock at the moment. I am wanting to do some upgrades. I am wanting to add a thundermax fuel management system, a new breather, and exhaust. I was leaning toward true duals, but after reading here, it seems true duals decrease performance, but make nice nosie. I guess the question I am wanting to know is. Do true Rhineharts duals really decrease performance?

The best pipe for performance would be a two into one in my opinion and from what I have had on our Dyno.I have a 2007 Ultra and you can see what I have done and the bike performace awsome. I'm going to try and get some dyno numbers this weekend. The Rhinehardts work nice and look great in my opinion, however one of the best sounding tru duals I've heard are the Bassani's...dam they they sound good.PM me if you have any question I would be glad to give you my two cents worth

PERFORMANCE... 2-INTO-1
True Duals - Look GREAT - Sound Good - bit just don't offer the performance you would get from the 2-into-1 system...

This is a huge subject and everyone has there own opinions. I would suggest using the search button at the top of the screen. You can do an "exhaust" search in the touring forum and go from there. I would offer my opinion, however you will recieve plenty. Good luck with your search.

I have a 2007 Ultra also and I put Vance and Hines Ovals on the bike. The sound is great but not loud, Also did the Screaming Eagle air cleaner. Finally did the HD download for the computer. Bike runs good and sounds good. I havent had any complaints at all and the bike is just slightly louder than stock. My mileage is about 38-45 city / highway. The numbers go up slightly when the lowers are removed. I am considering going true duals and a fuel management type device along with dyno run. Not sure if I will do that yet or not but that is an option for future upgrades.

Now I have a new question. Is the stock 2 in 1 exhaust ok with some new slip-ons?

If ya mean the STOCK OEM pipes - You can put on "MOST" slip-on's without the need to re-map or adding a Fuel Management system...

I think that most everyone who's installed them would answer "No, they do not decrease performance!" But looking at dyno charts it's obvious they change the shape of the engine output torque curve. There is relatively less bottom-end torque than with the stock plumbing. That's relatively.

It's no surprise. It's long been known that having a twin-cylinder engine with completely separate exhaust plumbing hurts low-end performance (relative to what it does top-end). The new Bub 7 system has an option for a true crossover pipe connecting the front and rear plumbing. This will greatly increase the lower-end torque at the expense of some of that on the upper-end; relative to what the completely-dual plumbing offers. Whether or how the torque curve changes as a result of having the crossover has yet to be published, to my knowledge. I will say, however, I'm very interested in them so far. I like the idea, at any rate.

Using the stock plumbing and putting a reasonable pair of mufflers on works quite well with no other changes necessary to the '07-and-up engine control system, as has already been stated in this thread.

No dyno to back me up, but this 07 fairly romps compared to my 02 with Stage I and Mackie cams. And my gas mileage is right up there at about 43-45, even better at slower speeds. I am not inclined to do anything to seek greater performance. I even like the sound of the stock mufflers. Kind of a low growl with a nice grumbling idle.
