Just a little rant, I need to buy a SERT for my "PhilBuild" (still grinin). I found one on-line, good price. called the selling HD dealership, asked a couple questions includingprice forthe USB cable. HD marketing genius' of course require you to buy a USB cable seperately......uh, OK. Theparts guy says I don't need it because the SERT has to be programmed by HD using a dyno......can't just download a map!! He said, ".......its not like a Power Commander ya know". I know better but what about the people that don't??? Buyer beware?
It never ceases to amaze me at how IGNORANT the people are for the most part that work at these Stealerships!!! Don't these owners realize how much more they could be bilking us out of if they would hire people that had some form of a brain. Sorry if I have offended anyone put I cant tell you how many wasted trips I've made to the dealership for a part that they have NO knowledge of. Service departments arent much better anymore either!!!

I am not sure what you are talking about. You use the CD supplied with the SERT to program the SERT. You pick the map that best matches your setup, then download it via the cables to the SERT. The dongle (black box in SERT package) will only be able to be used with your SERT once you use it. You need to buy the cables separately (I got mine from Harley). I also had to buy a USB to serial interface. Everything works great! I have uploaded many changes to my maps.
You are right - it is not a Power Commander. It has a lot more flexibility and control.
You don't have to have the dealer program. You can do it yourself. Better results with a dyno. If you plan on doing it yourself get the USB. For best results use the Race Tuner and find a good tuner.
My dealer told me the only thing I got was the dongle - wouldn't give me the the cables - nor the CD.... so for my $400+++++ I got the dongle. go figure - I took the freaking thing to an indie and had the whole deal checked out...
Sounds like the age old issue of corporate America cutting costs by hiring the NEW parts guy for $3.00/hr and letting the experienced parts guy walk out the door because he was making $3.25/hr and that was too much for the dealership....................hence the stupidity.

You should get the dongle and CD, which has the maps, instructions, etc. on there. You need to buy the cables ($20) and possibly a USB to serial adapter ($25). Then you can access the SERT.
I agree that a dyno is best. The maps are pretty close but for max perfomance you should dyno.

Well he's right in your case, there is no program on there to fit your build. But you should know better than to ask the parts guy Hell the ones at my dealership dont make enough to even own a HD and they get one at cost after they have been there a year. Ask the service manager next time or better ask on here!
For any interested I have a brand new set of SERT cables, 29.00 @ dealer a serial adapter cable 25.00 @ computor store for sale. 35.00 inc.shipping. PM if interested. I used these one time on my 07 SG.
