I am going to replace my inner fairing with a painted one I already own the manual, I'm wondering how hard a job is this? the dealer wants 180.00 to do it
I did mine in 3 hours or so. Take your time and label all nuts and bolts. I used small cups and labeled the cups. Did notreally even use the book at all. I did buy my painted inner before I started so I could tear it down and install the new one all at one time so I would not forget how things came apart. Great up grade
Good luck
If you like to work on your bike, it's a very doable project--not hard, just tedious. Took me about 4-5 hours--but I am slow, double check the Service Manual (which has excellent directions) every step, etc. and I installed the HD oil temp gauge/relocated the voltmeter. Besides, I rationalize thatthe money I "saved" doing it myself I can now useto buy more stuff for the bike.
The most likely thing to get messed up is the reassembly of the switch housings--easy to pinch a wire. Fortunately, it went smoothly with no problems.
i did mine...took about 2 hours to take apart with lableing everything and about the same to put it together. wasnt to bad just went step by step in the book. going to do my friends this winter....may have to charge him
Are you buying the painted inner fairing from the dealer? I have a stock one I will sell for $125, you can have it painted t the local body shop for about $100, you will save about $350 doing it that way.
