Yeah they are a real bitch too! Gusts of up to 108mph were recorded yesterday. Couldn't see crap because of the dust and ash in the air from the fires. Smells like a damn campfire inside my house.
Winds GO AWAY!
108mph Holy ****.
Yeah stronger than hurricane force winds... Although these are GUSTS and not sustained winds. The sustained winds were like 40-50mph. The canyons just funnel all the wind like crazy around here.
Well, we just got home from our 210 mile trip to the dealer and back. We lucked out this morning--it was a nice warm 40 degrees when we left.
Our 20-30 mph winds, however, turned brutal on the way home, with 45 mph sustained and gusts to 59 mph, coming diagonal to us from the front.
Which made me think of something I missed earlier in the thread, and that is shifting. Keeping power to the rear wheel is critical in such winds, and shifting down a gear will help do that, to keep your bike in the power band. When the gust hits, gently apply throttle as you countersteer, to help keep you in your lane position.
Also, when accelerating away from a stop sign with wind from the right, with on coming traffic, time your shifts between oncoming cars, because as soon as you pull your clutch in to shift, your bike is going to scoot over when the power is released from your rear wheel.
There go my plans to go to Prescott today. Three of us were planing a Sunday ride to Prescott all week. Well Az. has some gale force winds today. Might just have to go bar hoppin. Maybe that hot woman Valerie Thompson will be at the Hidaway again today. Anyone else headed out of Phoenix today?
WIMP!!! We had a great ride on Sunday! Didn't make it as far as we wanted to go though, a buddy's bike broke down just outside of Globe. My bike still looks like crap from all the dust blowing around though.

Nothing like a little ribbing! We were just going to do a short 1/2 day ride up to Rooselvelt Dam and back (nice big circle). Only got in about 150 miles or so, but I had to meet my wife down at her sisters in Queen Creek in the early afternoon.
