Just went to Daytona this weekend to meet up with Zippers, have been having a ratable pinging at cruising speed above 2800 RPM's, not bad just constant, would get bad if I got on it though. Bought bike into their stand explained everything to them and they went to work. Three hours later the bike was completely readjusted, lots more fuel, took lots of timing out. The tech Don said he had many 07 bikes in there with similar problem and suspects that the multi part cams that harley is using in the 07's is the problem. Also said I had a higher heat average than normal, I live in Miami so this is understandable. Right now I am getting 33 MPG running at 80 MPH, 37 at 75MPH, will let it tune as I only put600 miles on it since Friday. The bike is a new bike right now, no more pinging, great power, so the Tmax works, thinking about cam ming up to aforged ground cam.The techs and service by Zippers was great.
yeah, i noticed when i set my afr to 12 or even 12.5 it seemed to run alot better but the mpg went down to 32, im surprised they lowered your timing most folks say tmax timing is already set somewhat low. I agree about the tmax service it is really good they sent me the 4.5 firmware before it has even been released.
I'm consistently getting 36-39 mpg. I don't ride hard either. I don't like it but the bike runs so much better than stock that I wouldn't go back. Although I do have a slight ping issue at cruising speed to address in the spring.
hey stro glad ya entered this one.I got the firmware ya sent me a while back i didnt know ya had to be hooked up to the bike for the firmware to upload, tmax service walked me through it though.ya know hd claims 50mpg i would be happy to get 40 to 45 and still have the bike running right but i dont see that on happening maybee this year theyre 50mpg will be rated differently due to the new epa rules on estimated mpg.
I ride an '03 Ultra with a big bore kit and Andrews 21G camwith the TMax/AT. I am also getting about the same mileage as you with similar riding styles. I am going to start advancing the ignition timing in the cruise range until I start to hear some pinging and then back it off until the pinging stops. I suspect that will improve the mileage back toward 40 to 45 mpg.
Those who are experiencing pinging should probably retard their ignition timing a bit in the RPM/TPS range they experience it in.
The best way I have found to know the TPS is with two pieces of masking tape about 3 inches long each. Put one on the switch housing adjacent to the throttle grip. The other on the throttle grip right by the one on the switch housing. With the throttle closed, use a Sharpie to mark a line across both pieces of tape and lable that with the TPS voltage you record from the SmartLink monitoring software. Then open the throttle all the way and make another mark on the piece of tape on the grip in line with the mark you earlier made on the switch housing tape. Label this mark with the voltage for the Smartlink software returned for full throttle. Then use a tape measure to make a mark half way between closed throttle and full throttle. This mark is 50% and you should lable it with the TPS voltage you see on the SmartLink as you hold the throttle in that position. Then do this again measuring half way between this 50% mark and the throttle closed mark so you can mark 25% throttle.
Having these marks where you can see them while you ride will allow you to make a mental note of the throttle settings for your "cruise range" and other throttle settings where you might be experiencing pinging and such. This info along with noting the RPM where you experience the problems will give you what you need to adjust the tables in yout SmartLink software, getting you bike fine tuned.
Wow! I have been seriously thinking about the RH true duals and the Tmax but I was hoping the advertised better economy setting would beat the 40 to 42 Im getting on the HWY. I'd like a little louder pipe but I refuse to sacrifice any more MPG. The bike runs strong If a bit hot and no clatter so Im open to suggestions from anyone please.
