Default 2006 RK Handlebars

I'm trying to adjust my handlebars for comfort. I can not get the cover plate off so I can lossen the screws does anyone know how? Thanks for the input. I'm a new owner of my first HD and love the ride but there are some things I can do myself with out taking it to the dealer.

This was the first change / adjustment I made to my RK Classic back in June. I got back the cost of the service manual in the savings of not having the dealer do the work.

If you go by the link, when you get to the part about removing the front screw of the handlebar clamp cover -- don't. If it's like my '04 RKC just loosen it up a lot and rotate the screw assembly out as you lift the the shroud (cover) off. Re-install in the same fashion. It's a lot easier than putting the nut and washer back on inside the nacelle.

Also, tighten the front clamp bolts first and torque all to 16ft/lbs.

A couple of years ago a guy died on the Dragon when his handlebars came off his H-D.

Ok I got it all apart easily by just following the papers I printed out. I will be purchasing a manual soon. I can not see giving someone 75 an hour when I can do the same. I will be putting it back together this evening. Thank you guys for all the information I was really frustrated not having a website that I could go to. Thank goodness for the internet!!!
