I'm currently running Rush slipons, with 2" baffles, no PC/Fuel pak, and stock air cleaner on my 07 RKC. When I changed mufflers, the parts bubba told me if I wanted more sound I"d need another air cleaner and fuel management. also if I started noticing decel pop once the weather turned cooler. That's just starting to happen here in eastern NC, so I might step up to some fuel management and air cleaner soon.
If you don't use up the overhead in your '07 (and up, assumed) ECU's adaptive fuel function and if you don't ever get out of closed-loop operation and you don't mind the stock-level AFR then there's no reason to worry about anything. If you ever get up into open-loop operation, though, then there's no telling how appropriate your fuel mixture is going to be. The only thing you can do to be sure is to get a sniffer and log the data. But the bike runs so much better with a "dirtier" AFR that it's worth the few bucks paid for the fueler and fuel.
I ran into a guy at Biketoberfest who told me not to worry about a fuel pack. He added slipons and a K&N airfilter and said his bagger runs fine. I guess I want to know-----doesn't that lean it out even more. And the "heat" issue won't be cured without riching it up with a fuel pack or PCIII, right. He didn't give me a straight answer on all that.
Every Harley right out of the factory is running lean
because of EPA rules.
When you put a high-flow aircleaner on, the
bike will run even leaner.
Next year you will probably not see this guy at Biketoberfest
at least not on his bagger because it will be in the shop
for MAJOR repairs.
The "heat" issue is for real, so forget what he said
and buy a PC111 or SERT.
Results are: cooler engine, no more decel poppin' and more torque !
Everytime I try to answer a question I get beat to the punch!! LOL You guys are all correct. You can get away with just changing the slips and the air cleaner but get the race tuner and fattin that mixture up. The bike will run much cooler. I predict the guys who are running stockers are going to have some serious motor problems if they don't touch the air/fuel mixture. If anyone reads the American Rider Magazine there was a article about a stock 08 Ultra rear cyclinder running 400 degrees climbing the mountains. No engine can remain reliable and put out that much heat. Just by adding a aftermarket fuel tuner the temp dropped to 320 on the rear cylinder which is much more appropriate for the motor and your legs!!!!!
I have found that there are different views on what a motor sounds like when it "runs great."I think is it scary to think what will happen to these motors when they are running so hot and so lean for extended periods of time. When my big sucker air filter goes on the pcIII will join it.
I,m sure the 07s and 08s with the 96inch are alittle diffrent. I have an 06 RK and have the SE performance street slip-ons and the SE air kit. with the Dealer installed Stage 1 Download. Bike runs great, no decel popping and much more torgue and power then stock.
'07 FLHX. Screamin' Eagle street legal slipon's, stock air box with k&n air filter element, stage 1 download bike runs awesome, no popping and motor does not seem to be running hot.
You pay damn near 20'000 dollars for a bike what is another couple hundred dollars for a pc3 and a little money for a dyno run. I would say not adding some fuel to a allready lean motor can not be a good thing. Its like arguing over what octane # of gas you run, I know the extra 2 dollars are going to kill us on a tank of gas.
I purchased my '07 RK Classic used from a dealer with 2400 miles on it. It has a Screamin' Eagle air cleaner on it with stock exhaust. The dealer was not the original selling dealer and they had no service record on the bike. They told me that they did a 52 point check on the bike, includung changing all the fluids and everything was OK. Before I paid for it,I had the dealer put it on their computer and they told me the ECM was stock with no remap. I was concerned that the bike was running even leaner than it was from the factory. By chance,I met the original owner this past weekend. He told me that the bike has V&H pipes and a PCIII on it , but that he removed both items and trandsferred them to his newStreet Glide. He thought that with only the Screamin' Eagle A/C, thatmy bike was running too lean.
Yesterday, I had the bike dynoed. The A/F ratio varied from 13.5 all the way to 16.0, depending on the RPM. Mostly the A/F was around 15.1-15.3. HP was 75.2, Torque was 85.9
I assume that with pipes and an A/C, you will definitely need some device to richen up the mixture.
Even with stock pipes, I plan on adding the PCIII to correct the lean situation.Thatshould get me another 2-3 HP and 2-3 Ft Lbs of Torque and a cooler running bike.
Please! No flames about the stock exhaust. My last Harley had V&H pipes that had a loud bark when I got on it. I now live in a gated community of 1000 homes and I am the only person with a motorcycle. I never heard any comments with my previous bike, a whisper quiet BMW. All I hear from my neighbors is "I hear you have anew bike, I heard you go past my house." We have no restrictions on riding a motorcyle in my community and I do not want to give them any reason to institiute any restrictions. I live not far from Delray Beach where they recently tried to prevent motorcycles from riding through the main drag. The local newspaper is all over the motorcycle noise issue. Stock pipes it is for me (unfortunately).
