Default Another heat question

This is my first post, so I apologize if I mess it up.

I have an ‘08 Ultra (Candy Red Sunglo) on order with ABS, but I really need some help from you guys with experience to select add-ons and address the heat issue. I asked the dealer for performance add-on recommendations, and was told that if I want to preserve the warranty, only HD products should be added. The warranty issue is not the purpose of this post.

They suggested that I start with the 4” S.E. Street Performance Touring Mufflers (#64985-07A) plus tips, the S.E. Stage I Air Cleaner Kit (#29260-08) and the digital download. I was told they do not recommend a fuel management device (PCIII, etc.). In response to my questions about heat, they also said that the new 96 engine (’07 and ’08) does not run noticeably hotter than the 88 (‘06 and prior).

* I believe the mufflers increase the air flow, and therefore add to the heat problem. Is this correct?

* Will the digital download be enough to adjust the fuel/air mixture to increase fuel and decrease the heat? The salesman said this is so.

I plan to get the premium oil cooler (#26155-07) and the fairing mounted oil temp gauge (#75265-04) based on info I’ve read on this forum, but I’m still confused about the dealer’s comments.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. You guys have been great. I studied this Forum loooong before selecting my new ride.

Don't know how others will answer but I also just bought and 08 Ultra and my dealership must have taken the same hipnotic class that yours did.... Almost word for word on the recommendations but was told the Oil temp guage was just a purddy accessory that's not necessary and not really accurate..

The mufflers will release some back pressure that the stocks now have and the breather will open the air intake.... thus more effecient air flow through the bike....ehhh somewhat cooling it down.. The computer flash is to match everything back up... A fuel adjustment pac is probably a better option but not Harley recommended during the warrante period according to my dealership.

ok here is my story
I did a 103" se stage II kit
download with the kit
a 2:1 D&D fat cat header
hd oil cooler like you are thinking (worth the price)
it does not seem all that hot to me but only 500 miles so far
but it has olny been 80 ish and have nnot run stop and go traffic with it.
not hot to me butI will install a power commander after 1000 miles and dyno it.
my hd dealer will install a power commander just because they bought the dyno from them.
I would check into another dealer or ask what about se race tunner.

Sold my 07 rk b4 I took the time to toss on some rear jug heat deflectors (probably wortht having installed b4 u even pick up the bike I would think). Others say the 07/08 run hotting then the 06 and prior so not sure I would believe it when the dealer says it is not hotter. You live in cooler climate so probably won't be a problem at all for you. Also get the hd brand? air wings for each side of the batwing fairing. It has a lever that povits to allow air flow in around the fairing when desired. Nice design I think.
Enjoy the new ride.

Does that dealer have some ocean front property in Arizona? Don't believe it. Do a search and you will get loads of advise. Welcome

First off WELCOME to the Forum...
The Dealer will always try to sell you everything HD...
You should put your ears to work for you - Attend a Bike Function like a rally - Poker Run - Bike Nite and listen.... When you hear "THAT SOUND" that turns your head.. Walk up and ask the rider questions...
Doing a STAGE 1 "WILL" help address the heat problem\s on the '07 & '08... But allowing the Dealer to do the STAGE 1 download is just taking your $$$ as they "ARE REQUIRED" you set-up the system with in EPA Regs (which is LEAN and what is causing you bike to run hotter...
A Stage 1 will be to change the Exhaust (slip-ons or just mufflers) - Adding a Air Flow Kit (I would recommend Ness Big Sucker as they do work GREAT & has a reuseable filter)... And last a FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM and there's a lot to pick from depending on what you plan on doing to the engine down the road and how deep your pockets are...

By doing the Stage 1 you will be improving the general performance of the bike... Sound - Touque and addressing the Heat Issue...

just bought 07 ultra 3 days ago.....when my bike havenot come yet, i already bought Rinehart true dual, SE a/c, and SERT.... 3days ago when my brand new bike come, i test ride for the first time....and damn...who say 07/08 not hotter than previous year..??
it hot like hell man......Hotter than my 04 ultra......even when i cruise at say 50 mph, the heat still flow to my inner thigh/leg......and when in stop light.....wow.....my leg/feet move aroiund, like roasted worm....lol.....
yesterday i did stage 1, change the pipe, the air cleaner and do SERT (program the ECM with correct map)....and test ride it......wowww... the heat is minimal, no more fried leg when cruise.....when in stop light still hot, but acceptable hot....
and the sound of Rinehart is unbelieveable.......nice exhaust note.....rumble idle, and when we rev it up, it will sound like screaming deep bass with nice treble.....

The real issue causing the heat is the EPA mandated lean AFR. Best thing to do is get a fuel management device (SERT, PC, etc.) richen up the mixture, run synthetic oil and a cooler, and add some RJS Original heat shields. My UC is a pleasure to ride now, even in the hottest of weather. was unbearable before that.

UGlide, I'm relatively new to this as well. I'll share my experience with you on my 08 RG. Purchased in July and added the digital read out oil cap. Temps were running 220 -227 after a good ride. I never felt uncomfortable heat while riding with jeans but was concerned about the temps. My dealer's owner who used to build and race HDs said not to worry, at temps over 220 I was burning off the moisture that builds up in the engine. A couple of months later I added a stage 1 and a SERT, temps went to 170-180. That's about $1200 with a good dyno but probably well worth it if you plan to keep the bike a few years.
