Thanks for the responses, but I'm still uncertain what to do next. As I stated, the dealer does not want to use a non-HD fuel management system. If I just add the mufflers and the A/C as I indicated, will these reduce the heat? Will the HD SERT reduce the heat?

Again, using the SERT to richen up the mixture is the secret. Adding the mufflers and AC without changing the AFR won't fix the problem, and in fact will likely make the bike run even leaner which equals more heat. The download from HD won't richen up the mixture since HD has to stay EPA compliant. With the SERT you can use a canned map and then set the mixture richer. A dyno is the way to go, using a SERT (or PC, etc) to do the tune with.

Not much to choose from anyway right now with an 08 as for fuel management. The only thing i see worth it right now is the sert. I have been reading and asking about this issue for a few weeks now and i have decided since i will try and stay close to the warranty line and use the sert along with the ac and already installed muffs. No real black and white answers with warranty issues due to independent dealers but mine did tell me that they along with most will honor it. we shall see. the only other choice is do nothing but i want sound and a good running bike so i am gonna try and pray.

You are in the same boat as all of us. Who do you listen to????
Since I purchased my bike I've talked with several HD service managers, mechanics, bike owners, and forum members. One service manager would say get the SERT, the other would say he wouldn't sell one to his worst enemy. One would say the HD download was all that was necessary, and then the next would say they didn't even have one for my pipes/ac combination. Who the hell do you believe???
I finally decided to do what most of the forum members have done. The result is a bike that runs MUCH cooler and better than when stock. I am extremely happy with the set up I have now. Take a look at my sig for a parts list.
Good luck with your new bike and welcome to the forum.
Steve

07 Ultra...SE Touring pipes, Stage 1, SERT, Dyno tune and Iremove the lower fairings in the summer months. In my opinion the most effect changes to cooling is the SERT......removing the lowers made a signifcant difference in warmer temps.

Steve,

Greg,
I got 36.6 for the last tank full. Mix of highway and town riding. Will probably get close to 40 on the highway. I don't bog my bike. I ride fairly hard to I won't get super good numbers. I'm not worried about it really. I plan on checking my plugs to see what color they are just to get an idea of how rich I'm running. By the exhaust smell, I would say that it's about perfect. I'm not having any poppiug on decel so that tells me things are pretty good. Popping can be caused by both too lean or too rich.

I do know that the bike runs great right now. I'm happy.
