I know there are a ton of disscusions on this subject but I'm looking for some recommendationsfor me specificly, I've got a 02 Eglide classic FI, I weight around 295, and when I travel I pull a harbor frieght trailer with 20cu in luggage carrier on it. I never get the rpmsover 4k when I'm riding, looking for a good combo with good low end torque an able to run down the interstate at 75 to 80 comfortably and not feeling like I'm running the bike real hard, so to speak, like to keep the compression below 10 also. Would also like to be able to do some headwork at a later date but don't have the funds right now, what cams and piston combo would you recommend for this? ThanksChris
For cams, I would suggest either the Head Quarters 34, or Andrews 26 for what you are describing. In either case, flat top pistons will work fine. If you go with the HQ cam, I would suggest getting the pistons from them also. If you go with the Andrews, I would look at the Keith Black Hypereutectic pistons. They have worked well for me on other builds. The Screaming Eagle pistons would probably work as well.
Just got done editing the post. It appears30 of Mintons great articles are now on the site . Just scroll to the bottom of either article and there is a link. I seem to have to click twice to get it to open.
Let us know how your build turns out. I pull a Bunkhouse camper.
I did the Minton build ie 21 andrews cams, SE flat tops, cometic .030 HG and Supertrapp 2:1. It was a great build for a bagger. mid 90's Tq and was strong right off the bottom. I always read about baby cams running out of steam but this pulled hard past the ton mark. And would walk away from my buds 100/100 build in a 5th gearroll on from 60 to 100. Now if we were running in a drag race it would be different but how often do you drag race a bagger? most just do roll ons in 4th or 5th gear and that is where this build shines.
wellI have SE 211 Cams in my Bike and it's diffidently an E-Ticket to Ride this Bike, a few Months ago we did a (% Build on my Buddies 05 Road King using 203 Cams but next week we will be switching his Bike to SE 211 Cams
