Hey, if you can afford the hit, who cares. Now you have a bike you like even more.

Small thing I know but my Road Glide is NOT a sport tour bike, it is a tour bike. A sport tour bike is basiclly a sport bike with bags, FJR, Sprint, Concours, etc.

Exactly what do you feel you gained by making the trade? Only things the Ultra has that the RG doesn't is the CB Radio and a Tour pac. I'm sure you could have added both for quite a bit less than 4,500. And the TG is actually a better touring bike than the Ultra on the open road.

Not trying to knock your choice, just wondering why you think it was worth it.

I briefly had a 1998 Roadglide.....and it was a sweet bike. However, I never considered it even close to a sport tour though. I thought it was very similiar to the 1996 Tourglide that I had for a couple of years. The Roadglide definately looked better than that Tourglide. I honestly thought the Tourglide was a better deal.....because it handled the same, had all the bells and whistles including the tourpac.

The 1984 FXRT that I sold several years ago.....I considered that to be a sport touring bike. Really though, that 1996 Tourglide was probably the best Harley touring bike I ever had. It handled MUCH better than any Electra Glide equipped with the batwing fairing to my knowledge. Looking back, it was probably a mistake to sell the Tourglide.

Now, if Harley would make the Roadglide with all the same features found on the Ultra Classic. I might be interested. I wouldn't mind having a much updated Tourglide.

Congrats on your new bike.

I know exactly where Coolmac is coming from when he posted, “The Road Glide is a sport touring bike . . . .” I have made that comment in some of my posting concerning the handling of the Road Glide. Having always owned several sport bikes since 1986 till 2006 the last being a 2001 Honda CBR 929RR, the Road Glide’s handling is simply amazing for a bike of its size. Even though it is not a sport-touring bike. I still use that term looselywhen comparing the handling capabilities of the bike. The bike turns in and out of turns smoothly with minimal effort. I constantly find myself scraping my floorboards. I have never ridden an Ultra so I cannot comment on the handling of the bike. However, I did rent the Street Glide and the Road Glide on the same day before I made my decision to purchase the Road Glide. To me (IMO) the Street Glide felt heavy making turns, it may be contributed to the batwing fairing attached to the forks of the bike. It just did not feel as smooth as the Road Glide.

Both bikes are great. If Harley ever had to classify one of their bikes, as a sport-touring bike the Road Glide is the closest thing they have at this time.

On a side note I am getting ready to purchase my next bike and it is a sport-touring bike. It is going to be the 2008 KAWASAKI CONCOURS 14.

I agree the Ultra should come with or offer as an option thefixed fairing. Ihave a SG and love it but my next bike will probably be a RG only because of the fairing and will addatour pak.

ORIGINAL: Ultrasweet

Just traded in my 07' Ultra on my 08' Road glide. I figure I lost about 4500 on the deal but as far as I can tell it was worth it. The Road Glide is a sweet bike. Harley has it backwards with these things. The HD premium tourer needs the fixed fairng not the batwing. WOW what a difference. T.
