RE: lost $4500 on trade but I think it was worth it
You want a better handling and eaiser to ride Batwing??? Take OFF then dam DUMLIPS tires!! I got arround 80K on ElectraGlides all with Dumlop tires. last week I had some Michlin Commander tires mounted and ballenced. MAN, what a difference!!! They don't chase snakes! They don't chase cracks! they don't chase ridges! They just roll!!!
I ride these East Tenness twisty roads and they will tire you out. And alot of the tireing out is from gripping the grips tighter whenever the bike does that little jitterbug from rideing over a road snake or crack or a ridge on the road. By days end the arms are more tired just from that extra work.
But the Michlin Commanders practically eliminate all that jitterbugging loosy Goosey slip slidein away feeling.Curves that was pushing it at 45mph with the Dunlops are almost lazy at the same speed with the Michlins..
Now add that loosy goosey feeling of the Dumlup tires along with the wind jitterbugin the batwing and you got alot of UNwanted movement. But you can cut it to very little by changeing the tires.
There wont be any dam Dumlups on my Electraglides any more. And I dont care if they are New Dumlups. They will come off.
The whole package front an rear tires, removed and mounted on the bike and ballenced was $318.

Some people are just figuring out that tire choice really DOES make a differnce in the way a bike handles. I was taught this years ago on other types of bikes ndn just because a certain brand of tires is stock does not mean they will be the tires that the bike will handle best with. It means they are the company the manufacturer has a contract with. Check out how round the tires are. fI have a set of dunlops sitting right here by desk and they are not very round meaning you will have to fwork harder to get the bike to lean over. [sm=confused06.gif] The simplest things can make a world of difference. Mielage? Not the most impotant factor in my book.

Metzler 880's transformed my FLHT to a 'sport' tourer. No more wiggling in the cracks and wallowing in the turns. Although, the fixed fairing is nice because it takes all that weight off the steering.

You always lose big on a trade. The only times I have come close to what I wanted out of a bike was when I sold it outright. When they say Harley's retain their value they surely aren't talking about when you go to trade it in. $4k on a year old bike is a big hit to have to take especially on a bike tht is supposedly a "top of the line" bike.
RE: lost $4500 on trade but I think it was worth it
Wow, $4500... I just traded a '07 metric in when I got my FLHT. I got MORE than I paid for the metric in trade ($300), and ended up Getting the whole deal done for $17,800 OTD! Considering list on mine was $16,800, I feel really good about my deal....
