I live in NW Washington and since it started getting cold my 04 Road Glide (fuel injected - stage 1 w/Race Tuner Ignition) start up idle is running up to 2500RPM.After about five minutes it comes down where it should be and the bike runs great. I took it and had it DynoTuned and althoughgot over 10% more out of it (it had the wrong map installed from the dealer) I still have a WAY to fast start-up idle speed when cold. Any suggestions / help?
I'm not that much of a wrench, but it sounds to me like there is something wrong with the cold idle part of the race tuner map. I just wouldn't have any idea how to fix it without taking it back into the shop. I just had the race tuner put on my 08 Ultra this week, cold idle is about 1100 rpm then it drops down to about 1000, or maybe just a little bit less.
You've got a problem in the portion of the map for cold starts. All EFI's start up at a higher RPM for a few seconds, even when hot, but drop back to 1000-1200 quickly. It's not like an old choke on a carb where it restricts air to enrich the fuel supply to the motor...the ECM simply adds more fuel to the mix for a given period of time. Take it back to your tuner...there is a sequence of operation in the SERT for cold starts...it needs adjusting.
well two things.
Have the map checked out on the dyno by a tech.
Or hook it up to your laptop and read it your self.
Then you can change it. If you feel the need.
manual changes can be done with a screwdriver, a DVOM,couple sewing needlesand a manual that lays out the how to procedure.
