I'm in the market for a RK Classic. I found this '05 with 1,600 miles. It will be a year old next month.

He showed me receipts for about $8,000 in extras. It has the tour box(quick disco), a custom seat with two backrests, different handlebars with hidden wires, chrome master cylinders, chrome calipers, some type of H-D $350 jack, chrome cables, mufflers, and I don't remember what other things were added. No engine mods, just Stage 1 done. I looked at the KBB numbers, they don't jive with what he is asking. I know it's worth what I'm willing to pay, I just don't want to get bent too bad! LOL...

TIA.......

I'd say the bike looks like a beaut.

I'm on an 05 king and love it. Only thing, why would someone dump that much time and money into a bike and put so few miles on it? Is he trying to pass a lemmon on to you or is he needing money for a divorce or kid or something?

Just makes you wonder.

You'd be surprised how many people do that. Sometimes they buy it thinking they will ride or like it more then what actually happens. Then other times ya got the poser riders...

I look good and that's all that matters!!

Thats a great looking bike. But like you said dont get bent is the guy thats selling it willing to work with the price at all?? Is he tring to get all 8K out of the bike?? I think its funny when people put huge money in to a bike then expect to get every penny out when they sell it.. Id price out whats on the bike then see if its still a good deal. good luck

The reality is -- what would you pay to get the bike? From a dealer's perspective, if they were going to take the bike on trade, the price would be for the bike itself -- regardless of how much chrome is on it. But when you are buying from a private seller, usually the "investment" of chrome is worth about 50% of the original purchase price.

Check out what dealers in the area are selling used '05's for -- then offer the guy about 20% - 25% more for his chrome add-ons. And have the cash/check in hand. It is hard to say "no" to a sure thing like that. Oh, and then offer to take his old parts off his hands, since he probably isn't going to be needing them without a replacement bike.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. If it's a lemon, he wouldn't know it. It belongs to a friend of mine. He buys a new H-D every year just for the heck of it. He's got plenty of green guy$. LOL... I've tried to get him to adopt me for the last 8 years!

I went and looked at the bike again today. The only flaw I can see is where the stainless clutch cable has rubbed the inside of the windshield. He thinks he has all the stock parts in his warehouse. He knows he has the pipes and stock seat.

I'll probably go ahead and take the leap. He's asking under $20k for it. I won't say how much under..... LOL!!

Thanks again......Red

Sounds alright to me, tphillips is absolutely correct. I've talked to a few sales people that have said that exact thing about accessories having little or no affect on trade in value.

You haven't bought it yet - Can you take it to a dealership and let them check it out, it might cost you a few dollars but at least you would know what shape it is in.

Looks good - I don't know but of one other bike that looks better - Just kidding - See attachment.

You still have got at least one year warranty left. If anything should go wrong. When I bought my bagger used it had 2300 miles on it. It had some extras but the engine was stock. I passed on plenty of them because the engine had mods. I dont need any warranty trouble. And fighting with the dealers. Bob.
