Just an opinion here... but I would think for 5k you could go 95" or 98", nice mild cam, Baker 6 and upgraded brakes and blow the bags off of any stock '08, the only thing you would not have, like BZ said, is ABS.
If you really want a RG, then you'll have to bite the bullet.... but I do think the dealer is low-balling you, I got 12,250 for my '00 RKC in trade for my '06 RK in apr. of '06

I think the other problem they're having is that no one is buying bkes right now. And not just Harleys, either. I know some sales guys at the local Yamaha dealership that are making less than service techs.

At my local dealer, the sales manager and I were chatting the other day, and he told me that they are doing everything they can to stay away from trade-ins, because they can't move them when they put them on the floor. In fact, he said they have more bikes still in crates at their warehouse than they have on the showroom floor.

Keep in mind that this is a large-volume dealer that has completely sold out of their allottment for the last four years. But, not this year. they got tons of iron sitting on the floor, and in boxes, and no one's buying them. They've got a '07 special edition RK on the floor right now, with Stage 1 already done, V&H pipes, and other goodies. It's priced at $15k and nobody has touched it for a couple of months, even at that price.

He told me they offered a guy with an '06 Softail about $2k less than blue book, because they can't even begn to sell them at blue book retail if they take the trade-in.

If they thought they could make a profit on the sale, I'm sure they'd be happy to offer you a really nice deal on that SG, but if theyaren't moving bikes, what sense does it make for them to get rid of a bike they can probably sell--a new SG--for a bike that will be a lot harder to move out of their showroom--a two year older one.

The bottom line is: if they aren't moving bikes, then they probably don't want yours too much.

Texas,
I understand your point but after buying 2 bikes from them and since they are making plenty on the new '08I would like to thinkthat they would cut me a break and not insult me. I can't even tell you how much Crap I've purchased from them over the years. So much for Customer / Dealer loyalty.
I'll tell you one thing, I won't purchase from them again. Their loss!
Dealer loyalty????[sm=icon_rofl.gif]Sorry, those two words used together just struck me as FUNNY!!!!

Ask yourself this. Would you pay a thousand or two under for a 1 or 2 year old bike when you could get a brand new one with decent financing? The old days of good resale are over. There are too many out there to choose from. The only way you can get your maoney out of a used bike is if it is a one of a kind that a person has been searching for. In that case you may have to wait longer to sell it. It is all about supply and demand. The 07' Ultra that I was given 17K for on a trade will probably be on there floor for 19K. If the new ones are 22 before taxes which one would you buy? Especially being an 07' and all the bad press alot of folks around here are giving them. T.

Think thats a hit, go check out how much of a hit a jap bike takes. No one is going to give you retail for the bike, its not made of gold, so either sell it outright, or do the smarter thing, get a Baker 6speed and some upgrades and keep it.

Stealer price is about what they offered for mine a 06 roady with 6k miles , options dont add squat, he offered 12k and i was looking at a new 08, was thinking of the 96 and 6 speed, but ill keep my old girl and just do a big bore and baker when funds come avail. if you really want to get top doller gonna have to sell it yourself, like the saleman i talked to and he is a riding buddy they will give 12 and sell it for 15.5 or so,
