I asked the dealer if my excessive vibration on my '06 could be caused by camshaft runout sort of like the problem some of the '07's were having. He said there was no problem with the crankshaft in 07, the problem with excessive runout was causedby the riders lugging their motors thus causing wear on the crank.
Could you believe this Crock! They will never admit when there is a problem with tolerances from the MOCO! It's either "NORMAL" or it's our fault!
Yep, believe it. You dont actually damage the crank, it is just not put together well and starts to scissor causing excessive runout, causing vibrations and if runout gets bad enough, catastrophic failure. HD had a runout limit of .010 and in talking with a service writer (lives down the street from me) he indicated they have moved it to .012. Some bikes are smooth (true crank) and some shake like a dog with the sh*ts. If it is vibrating bad, see if you can find a dealer that will pull the cams and check runout, but that will be a trick unless it is shaking so bad that parts are starting to fall off.
