Default Power outlet in Tour Pack

OK, so this is what I do'd:

I ran a wire off the hot side of the battery and immediatly installed a fuse holder. Installed a 3 amp fuse. I then fed the wire along the existing cables into the Tour Pack. I got a ground for the outlet off the metal plate in the bottom. Installed the outlet on the back using the existing bolts that hold the back plate on.

Does this seem like a good idea? I know, shoulda taken pictures of the install but didn't think of it till now.

Some of the areas I ride in don't have cell reception and it really eats my battery. Was thinking this would be a good way to charge it

For my phone I use a car charger in the lighter outlet on the fairing. I guess I cant think of anything that I would want to use while I was riding that I couldn't charge or run of the lighter outlet.

yeah I could see that... I guess I just run a little different. No PDA, just my phone and hers. We can take turns charging.

I think that's a good suggestion. I don't have an outlet in the faring of my bike. I ran a wire from the battery to a fuse to a RCA jack under my right saddlebag on the rail. I made a RCA jack to lighter adapter. I just plug in the adapter and I can use any lighter accessory at the camp, like the air pump to air up the mattress.

Humm, maybe I need one in the tour pack to charge up the laptop....

Pete:The metal support plate in the bottom of the tour pakmay notprovide adequate ground since it is simply boltedto the plastic/fiberglass (depending on the year) of your TP and is not otherwise grounded to the bike--at least that's the way the metal plate in my older TP is installed.

Buy the one from the stealer, direct plug in under the seat. What I did was cut the wires and added a couple feet of wire to reach the trunk. I installed a quick disconnect for when I remove the tour pack. I use the plug for my i-pod which is in a holder in the tour pack with a remote changer.

Works great, never had a problem. Quick and easy.
