cams only?
Why not do the heads when you do cams. Youcan get your'sported for $400 - $900 depending on where you go and what you want done. Or you can go with the Screamin Eagle MCR heads, leave your cylinders stock and it will take you to 10.3:1 with a standard gasket or 10.5:1 with a .030 cometic. Then you can go with a Woods TW-7H or HQ-TC-575-HC and really get a big bang for the buck.
You will see a much more drastic improvement doing Heads and Cams than spending money on a 103" kit.
The problem with the 96" is the short duration of the stock cam.
If you just doa set of cams, consider the SE 211. That would help quite a bit.
BTW, Don't waste your money on Gear Drive. The 2007's are not have the failures the '06 and older bikes do.

To make it easy the dyno chart I attached. My answer is the 96 can be made to run E-Ticket like, without shelling out for a103 job. Therewas and is no dissapointments with my cam change and that is the real story your getting from me, Ice Heritage, and Greg whogot to rideboth of ourbikes back to back, andnow plans to do the same upgrade to his 07. You want big bang for money spent keep your 96, change out for SE211s, your favorite headers, SERT, SE Air cleaner, dyno tune, adjustable PRs! Then tell me you hate it! You will not be able to, I guarantee it! If you want over to move over100/100 then its a different story and build. This combo with headwork I am thinking would push the torque just over 100 and put the HP in the 90s. This cam sounds awesome in a 96....much more Harley like, and has straight up power from 2800RPM-5800RPM right where we all spend our time on the road!

Did pretty much the same same and left the heads alone. SE1 pipes and A/C then put a inset of SE204's with Adj PR's and hit the dyno.
Went from this to this on my 06 RK. Power range for 2 up is so much better. More low and mid torque. Seat of my pants said OK, cool.

I plan on the se 204 in the next few weeks. Have read a lot about this cam for riding 2 upwhich I do most of the time, these were suggested to me by the shop that dose things that I am not comfortable with, the mechanic states it will wake the motor up a bunch
My take on all of this is do it once and do it right the first time. If you think you will be happy with the 10-15% increase in power and not have to tear in to it a year later to get more, then do this.. It is obvious that it works...
Personally, I want more... A well packaged 103" kit will give you a reliable 110HP on 91 octane fuel... So for me the answer is simple, HeadQuarters 103" Touring kit... Yes, it's a little more money, but I don't think I will tear in to it for at least two years

I just dropped a set of Andrews 37H cams in my Road Glide. Upped my rev limiter to 6500 and I can tell you those cams pull nicely from 2K to 5800. The 204 will die a lot earlier than that! The recommendation came to me from an ex service manager who still builds bikes. The Andrews 50 is nice if you're going to do some head work. I know people say save and do it all at once but I'll build her out to 103 in a couple of years. I needed to wake her up before that si for $240.00 the cams were worth it to me. I needed the extra torque because my commute takes me from 10mph twistys to 90,ph highways. 100 miles a day....
depends on what cam you want to go with and what kind of 103 kit you plan on upgrading to. If you put a small cam in and want to go with a slightly beefier built 103 then you would be stuck buying a 2nd set of cams to get what you want.
I think that is good advise. Look there are lots of methods, configurations, andways to skin acat so to speakto get increased performance. But some are quite a bit more expensive avenues with marginal gains returned for cabbage invested if the overall combo does not compliment and play well together. That really is the bottom line. Do your homework stop taking your stealers word for it.Set a performance goal upfront. Getting your wallet out and hoping it is good,is justnot the way to go.....A few of us are just trying to help others understand the 96 can bring verynice numbersto the table as we have shared for fewer bucks. Dealers really do not want you to know that...... They are in the business of selling bores, jugs, gaskets, and their labor.
