I have an 07 ultra with pipes and ac and a thunder max. Could I gain enough to make it worthwhile just upgrading the cams. Plan on going to 103 later but doing it a little at a time
Depends on how much of a gain is "enough" in your mind. If you have the T-Max w/ Autotune and are capable of doing the cam swap yourself, then the risk is low. There are several cams that would be options. If you can be more specific with what you are looking to get out of a cam swap, I'm sure some of the experts will jump in and make a recommendation.
All that said, you would probably be better off waiting until you can do the complete 103 kit.
I would throw in a Zippers Red Shift Cam, they wont make a gear driven cause the say the tolerances arent tight enough on the 07's but I have done several with a Red Shift and with the TMAX is wakes them right up.
My stage1 07 Ultra dynoed at 76hp/89tq. If yours is similar to mine I would guess the right cam choice with no other work would get you to mid 80's hp/high 90's tq.
Sugarbear: Unless you know what 95" or 103" build you are going to do (such as street port, full head porting, compression, etc.) it is probably better to save the $$$$ you would spend now, and buy the correct cams for your build.
i was wondering the same thing. i have a 07SG with rhinehart true duals, SE air cleaner and going with SERT over winter.wondering if adding cams only could get me more torque up through mid range rpms.
