Default Rider Backrest

2007 Road Glide. Considering the purchase of a fixed rider backrest. Concerned about cramping the Mrs. in the passenger seat. Is space lost for the passenger. Do I need to measure the wife? She's 5.4, normal size and weight. She enjoys riding with me and I don't want to unbalance the comfort factor.

Thanks

I have one and the Mrs. doesn't mind it one bit. she is 5'1" she has a little more room when I have the sissy bar on vs the tour trunk.

My wife is about 5'4" and we are both a little on the "husky" side. I have the adjustable backrest, but have to move it all the way forward, then she loves it....but unfortunately it moves me too far forward, so I feel like I'm sitting on the gas tank. Next time we ride together I'm going to take off the backrest and see how that works. If its still a problem I'm going to order the tourpak relocation plate so I can move the tourpak back and inch or 2.

If I was doing it again, I'd be looking at the adjustable rest. The fixed rest pushed me too close to the front of the bike. I guess it depends on how tall you are though.

I have been taking my adj back rest off when taking a passenger to give us more room. It works with it on but does take up precious space as neither (especially me) of us are tiny people. If I raise it up and forward it helps but pushes me more forward than I like but it is ok.

For the long haul though my back loves having the backrest. It has spoiled me, I can't do a long ride without it now.

I am 6'-3" and the wife is 5'-10". Without risking my life...I will add that she is as one here put it, "huskier" than me. I have the non adjustable back rest and love it! She on the other hand is somewhat cramped when it is in place. With cooler weather on the way, she is right at her limit for low temperature comfort so the backrest will not be a problem for her! I will also add that the removablebackrest is at times a challenge to get in the bracket under the seat if'n you have big hands. Several times I had to go get a beer and hold my mouth just right to get it re-installed. Your mileage may vary....

My wife much preferred riding when the backrest was in the garage. Until I bought the George Anderson tourpac relocator kit, that is. Now she is fine with it. It does make a difference in passenger comfort.

Yeah, you need to check into the George Anderson relo kit. George does not have a computer but that doesn't matter, he is easy to do business with. The device has 2 settings, if memory serves, 1.25 inches and 2.5 inches extra room.

stro1965 and Arvid. I have been thinking about the George Anderson relo kit, but have been wondering how much it affects the handling of the bike I just don't think my wife's "chest" is going to give me the back support I've gotten used to, but I really don't want to screw up the balance of the bike since it seems to handle so well right now.
