I wear my Army boots (sturdy and reasonably warm), gloves from Wal*Mart (off-gray, sold for skiing), and water-resistant pants and coat from A&N ($19-29 a pop). After my kids somehow lost my silver-gray flight jacket, I got another one. You _don't_ want to put this on in any room near normal room temperature; it's that warm. You can also flip it inside out for a flourescent orange look. And then I melted the back off one knee against my exhaust (don't ask me how) so I've got to go replace _that_ before I hit a rainstorm.

I'm not opposed to any of the 'designer' outfits, but with kids and house, I cycle on a budget, and this ensemble (less than $75) really does the trick for me.

This'll get you started.
I'm in the market for some all weather gear to. This stuff looks good.
also where do you live, how cold do expect it to be and how far do you
need to ride to work.
Also how much do you want to undress after you get to work and then redress before home (long johns and such).
Might try actual sporting goods stores or snowmobile dealers or Sierra trading post (on line), for the suit you want. I got mine years ago at a Target store.
You might want to consider carharts. either bibs or full coveralls.
They are warm, reasonably windproof and good protection if you go down as are very heavy denim / canvas material.
Or if not very far, maybe someelectric pants and vests.
I routinely do 50 miles + in the winter in Wyoming with longjohns, blue jeans, thermal socks, insulated boots, t-shirt. long sleeve, sweatshirt, jacket
stocking cap, gloves with liners or mittens with liners.
My buddy basicallt the pants, shirt and jacket, cap, gloves.
But he's a wing rider, so just as well be in his truck.

OK this question is four all you year round riders.
I have an Ultra that i generally ride to work most of the year. With gas getting above 3$ a gallon, I need to ride even more. Cold weather is approching and I need some info.
Leather is NOT warm...contrary to belief it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Years ago I had a one piece insulated snowmobile suit that was easy to get off/on. It had zippers on each outer leg that went the entire leg, not just from the knee down. Plus it had cuffs on the sleeves that helped keep cold air from getting in.
Now, i see some of the gold wingers wearing these types of suits, but i cannot find anything online that i am looking for. I must not be looking in the right place. Does anyone know of a one piece (coverall type) insulated riding suit that is available online and doesnt cost a fortune?
if you have the web site address that would be even better.
many thanks.
i have one in size 4XL, but it fits more like a XXL.

it's very similar to an aerostich suit but costs a lot less.
it has great armor and a liner, although i never wore it with the liner because it would get too warm.
i lost a lot of weight so it's not even close to fitting now.
i was planning on putting it on ebay this weekend and hoping to get $200.
it's only been worn a handful of times and is in perfect shape.
