Get a battery tender, very easy to install quick connector on battery so you only have to plug it in for storage. Best price I found was at mawonline.com battery tender jr. for about $20.
Battery Tender....all you do is plug it in and forget it. I have one that I bought from summit racing for about 20 bucks that works great too, I'm putting it on my tractor this winter.
It all depends on where you live and what the lowest for casted temps are for your area. If it goes lower then 40*F or even freezing <32*F, I would remove the battery from the bike, and store it indoors where it can stay at room temp with a trickle charger on it for a few months. This will extend the overall life of your motorcycle battery by several years.
As for my bikes......well I park them in a heated garage, and I still remove the battery from the bike to put it on charge.
Never used a battery tender on any of my other Harleys. Always replaced the battery every 2-3 years too (wet cell). Since I bought my 03 FLHTCI, I have put a battery tender on every winter. The battery has always stayed in the bike. I am still on the same battery since the bike was new.
BTW, the winter temps around here average about 20-30 degrees.
PAPA IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY WITH THIS ONE. I HAVE ONE I BOUGHT AT AUTOZONE FOR $19. I WAS ACTUALLY AT HARBOR FRIEGHT AND SAW THE ONE TPDAY THAT YOU GOT. IN MY OPIONION, IT IS BETTER TO ATTACH THE QUICK CONNECT CABLES TO THE BATTERY AND PLUG IT IN WHEN YOU NEED IT. ALSO, THAT WAS YOU CAN STILL GO FOR A RIDE ON THOSE NICE DAYS.
