Is it better to remove the battery for the winter (my bike stays outside-no garage) or leave it alone and trickle charge it every so often?
2008 Road King
Battery tender is a charger with some smarts. It automatically kicks on when the battery is low, shuts off when battery is fully charged. You never ended up over-charging the battery. I got mine at the HD shop, about $38.
Mine have sat outside all winter since 1998.
Sometimes in a shed, most times not.
Never had a problem with the battery, even one several years old.
These new batteries are like one in your car, not the batteries of
yesteryear.
Other than that, just go ride it from time to time
Extreme cold weather (here in WI that means January days below 0 ) is certain slowdeath to a wet cell battery.........even w/ a tender. Talked to numerous mechanics on the subject, all said the same thing.
My scoot is going in an unheated shed for the winter; the battery is coming out & going in the basement (w my tractor & camper batteries). All on tenders. Just my $.02
