It's really difficult to 2nd guess or could'a / would'a / should'a. There are always unique variables to these situations that dictate what can or can't be done.
As I was reading your post, I was thinking that it "may" have been possible to power thru, which would prevent or minimize the highside effect when the rear when instantly grabs taction. But as I read on.... I realized the it's just about impossible to speculate.

I've done that several times, could'a /should'a /would'a /how in the F did I save that? There are very few times when you have a definitive answer to those type of questions.
