Default How come?

Just installed free flowing mufflers, andrews cam, and SE air intake. Is there anything that has to be done to the ECM? My H.D. service manager tells me there are no down loads for my bike. Why isn't this ECM programmable? Do I need something like a Power Commander. If so which one is a better match for this bike. This is about all I will be doing to this bike. Runs good as it is. Need some help, please. HD dealer really sucks.[]

Ditto the sert.....I sure am happy with the results on my 08 Ultra. I also had mine dyno tuned, costs a bit more, but you can't beat the results. I also like the fact that I don't have another piece of equipment hanging off the bike since the sert just reprograms the stock ECM.

Yep, a SERT of PC is needed to change the AFR mixture. The SERT reprograms your ECU on the bike. The PC is an add-on that goes between the ECU and the injectors and provides the necessary AFR. Both require the use of a selected map(preprogrammed settings).

You didn't indicate what kind of slip-ons you are using. If you are using all HD/SE parts (AC, slip-ons) you will likely find a map for your combination. It however doesn't provide pre-set settings for use of non-HD parts. You can still use it, but the recommended way is to have it dyno'd with the SERT, to custom build a map.

As they havs said you will need something, a screming eagle race tuner(sert), power commander, daytona twintec, T-max, or somethig along those lines. I run the sert and I am adding a pro tuner, have friends that run the others time to look into what does the best job for you you will get a lot of diffrent opinions on this.

Not sure why the HD stage 1 download wouldn't get you close. You could still go with some less expensive than a SERT like the Revtech DFO. Pretty simple and no dyno required.

He will need to have somethig that he can tune to his cam, a flash will not do it, and he will also need ignition adjustment not just fuel to get it right.

When you change the air fuel ratio (better air cleaner and cams)
you need to adjust it electronically via the ECM to compensate and maintain the same or better ratio. Otherwise you engine could way too
lean and fail or maybe even too rich (unlikely).
The best way to do this is with the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner (sert).
About $500 installed and dynoed.
But I would be finding a different dealer with a GOOD tech if I were you.

Well, that sort of kind of sucks, since I'm about to order Andrews 26G cams for my bike. I've got the stage 1 download and was hoping it would get me by for a while. Now I've got to shell out more $$$ for a SERT and dyno? Maybe I need to stick with chain driven cams. [:'(]

Everything Choochoo said is right on target...

Take it to an Indy and have it Dyno'ed.
